4 AGE improvements

Dear all,

I am driving my car with the 4 AGE for two years now and I have to say I am happy with it. It's a small port ( 3rd generation )
with TB's and Omex ign.system.

Was wondering if anybody has tried different cams or else ?
Standard it has 232 cams with lift 7.1 both inlet and exhaust.

Best regards
Jos

Where do I start

I've tried the 16V 4AGE 1600cc with carbs then 272 HKS cams, then 1800cc, then supercharged 1600cc, then superchargerd 1800cc with flowed head and cams!

Now I'm changing my blacktop 20V to a silvertop with CAT cams, then very shortly after with a Rotrex supercharger.

If your question was what would be a reasonable drop in upgrade than maybe cams similar to the HKS 272 with 8mm lift would be a start. After that then head flowing and larger valves or high lift cams requiring stiffer springs.

@bimbleuk : that is quite an impressive listing 20v silvertop -Rotrex sounds very good !
catcams is only an hours drive from where I live by the way.
I mainly use the car for street use so do not want to lose to much at the lower end. maybe catcams do a nice pair of cams. shouldn't I try 264 first ? mmm...
what happens if the belt breaks with 264 or 272 cams ?

@Morfy : thanks for the tip but billzilla is already in my favorites

So long as the lift isn't excessive the duration won't make any difference as to piston clearance.

If CAT cams are near you then I would have a word with them. Try to find out if the cams have been dyno and not just designed on a CAD program.

hi there, at the moment im building my 16v 4age 1600 with jenvey throttle bodies and omex ignition, and with the next few days im going to be dropping my cams in.
Their kent cams supplied by raw and i believe one is about 288 and the other is 304 cant remember which way round.
i dont know how savage or usable it will be, but im not worried about that...

From my experience the 272 deg cams with mld lift is a good compromise for road/track.

As both of you have an OMEX ECU to start with then you should be able to get just about any cam to work in the 4AGE.

The most consistant NA 4AGE engines I've seen are from a guy called Gary Goodyear. I've seen several on the rollers that BPJ services (they do kits as well), RAW, Gary and OMEX all use for development on the 4AGE engines. A realistic 180 BHP and 140 lb ft can be achieved by his engines if you've got the money to spend!

If you wanted an engine to his sort of spec then speak to Mel at RAW as Gary does the development for his circuit car not as a business as such.

Oh and for mapping you want to go here ....

www.mechmotorsport.co.uk

As all the previously mentioned companies use them for the mapping services. Lots of experience modifying Toyota engines and from the various pictures of my Striker on that site I think a majority of the engines have been mine
