Engine Oil

For the tintops - tow petrols and a diesel in my case.

What do you use and how much do you pay for it ?
I'm creaky enough about the joints to be physically unable to reach into my pocket for the old switch card when I see a gallon of oil charged at 30-35 quid like everyone seems to want these days. ( My head is still programmed to say - "Oil costs a fiver a gallon and not a penny more".....

How much do you pay and for what make / grade etc ?

mobile 1 15-50 for the cosworth, bought from halfrauds it's about 35 quid for 4 litres but i tend to get it at the shows where it's 20 quid for 4 litres.

miller xss 10-40 in the MK, think it retails about 15 - 20 quid a can but knowing the miller rep sorts that out

built a car, built a home, had a family. lost the family, lost the home, still got the car.

Vauxhall dealers sell their own brand oils very cheap, they usually have a 4x5litre special deal going on. Available in most grades

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Fuchs 15-40 about £8 for 5Litres

Fuchs XTR semi synthetic 10-40 £11.50 for 5L

Quantum Synta Gold Fully synthetic 5-40 £19.90 for 5L

From B & B Components, Maidstone.

(All + VAT)

I use the cheapest in my Mercedes, its better than GTX and a lot cheaper.
About to try the semi-synthetic in a Pinto engined Westfield.

depends on the car you drive.

if its an old heap, a fiver is ok.

if its an 18 month old renault like mine that has 18k between services, and a turbo that costs 2k to replace, you use summat good

How much is your engine going to cost to replace? Bit more than a fiver
