Check your nuts

Its that time again when the cars are getting taken out of hibernation. Just a polite reminder to all to check your nuts and bolts are tight and secure.

I had a caliper bolt come loose on me, luckily very close to home and at slow speed, would hate something like this to happen to someone else for the sake of a quick post.

second that.

an hour spent spanner ckecking your nuts is nothing compared to the time taken filling out an insurance claim. I too have had a cliper moment at 30mp locked the front ns so luckilly pulled me into the grass verge.

It is a good idea to paint a telltale mark on all of the important bits - a stripe going over the nut, bolt & washer. I used some anti tamper paint and I can see at a glance that everything is torqued up without touching a spanner.

Or even better still take time to lock wire essential ones. Make sure you do not reuse nylocs on essential parts. These cars seem to loosen nuts as well as backsides more often due to the vibration levels.

Ditto- having a lower swivel nut coming off is not fun...... Tippex lines applied on all major nuts and bolts now...

ps Don't forget the propshaft bolts!!! Can be a pain to get to but not as big a pain as if they all come out

I tipexed mine when I first torqued them up, but they still need tightening after the first couple of hundred miles as the bushes settle in and the powdercoat/paint wears off. The the nuts might be tight and wont be able to come off, but the wishbones etc could still have play.
