while usb is available i always find its not wuite upto the networking tasks. pcmcia card can be picked up for a similar price to usb and ive found they're better. truth be told i have and use a usb dongle but ONLY in emergencys as the dirvers are in windows for it

What ever you don't get a PCMICA card --- go USB but use one on the end of an extension or better still one that has an external areial.

Ebuyer do some very cheap USB dongles that work better than the big brand ones.

Also don't install the software for the card, let windows pick up the driver from the install CD then let windows xp/vista built in software handle the wifi networking.

ok so i got a usb thing-its all loaded and plugged in .my strength of signal is 96%
and link is 100%

my little network connections icon on lower right of screen is very busy trying to aquire network address,
this seems to be my problem as the connection is on and off constantly-as yet not managed to be on the net.

any ideas?

this is all loaded from the supplied disc as windows could not do it?
