Locost builders trackday ?
procomp - 20/1/07 at 09:47 PM

Hi all In discusion on an other thread there has been mention of locostbuilders having a fun get together trackday. Just thought it might be a good idea to see what the interest was if any.

Let the discusion begin and lets see what the interest is and where it leads.

cheers matt

Jon Ison - 20/1/07 at 10:10 PM

I love speed :-P - 20/1/07 at 10:23 PM

I would love to, but now the wind has taken my garage I don't know whether it will be finished in time But if it is finished I am up for it.

TangoMan - 20/1/07 at 11:13 PM

Definitely up for it as log is it's not tooo far down sarf!!

Anywhere between Teeside and Silverstone would do for me.

An Overnighter would be good to meet up and havea few beers.

bigrich - 20/1/07 at 11:17 PM

sounds like a cracking idea, just need to finish this build. As mentioned cadwell would be great ,esp if the sun's out
The thought of all those 7's/locosts and like minded people deffinately appeals to me

scutter - 20/1/07 at 11:29 PM

I'd buy into that, would you be splitting it up into experiance groups as i'd hate to upset someone by messing up their racing lines in my blundering around the track.

ATB Dan.

russbost - 20/1/07 at 11:53 PM

How about anywhere between Silvertstone & Brands!
I'm up for it.

That sounds great to me too - it would be great to meet the peeps and cars

JoelP - 21/1/07 at 12:20 AM

id love to join in that at cadwell, a good track thats really worth spending some time learning. And i wouldnt dream of making people split into groups, thats just not cricket! Open pit lane is my preference, you always find a few clear laps in any outing.

Gimme a few months to build the car though

DIY Si - 21/1/07 at 01:59 AM

If I dare go near a track, I'd be up for it. Somewhere in the Midlands for me. Or I might have to bring the 205 out to play. If I'm allowed.

Andy North - 21/1/07 at 06:32 AM

Bit of a track from France, but I would be up for it if I was on leave when it is scheduled.

scutter - 21/1/07 at 07:24 AM

Joel, I'm the poor driver, I'm still saving to get some tution from some like Candence.

I know that I've poor car control and normally panic when the car gets out of control, hence the lessons and a few trackdays to get a feel for things. Still a day with your peers sounds like a great way to allay these fears.

ATB Dan.

andrews_45 - 21/1/07 at 08:44 AM

Sounds a great idea. The Subaru forum once hired out Curborough Sprint circuit. They let you camp the night before and IIRC it was about £40 each

Curborough circuit hire is quite cheap. It's even cheaper is the hirer is a member (£30 - £40 IIRC) but it is 1 car at a time on track and doesn't really count as a "circuit"

I'd be interested if it was cheap and within, say, 100 miles of Birmingham.

Maybe worth having a chat with steve hole at totalkitcar, they have cancelled Oulton Park so i'm thinking if they are suffering from lack of numbers this could be a good opportinity for anything totalkitcar have planned for the future to bolster the numbers.

TimC - 21/1/07 at 11:09 AM

I'd try to get there even if the car wasn't ready. Perhaps a bit of a trek for everyone, but I'll throw an idea in the hat - Pembrey. Camping (in field) no issue, BBQ fine I'm sure. I also know someone on the comittee.

Danozeman - 21/1/07 at 12:31 PM

Ill be up for it if it isnt silly far away.

chriscook - 21/1/07 at 01:21 PM

Mallory is fairly central...

Peteff - 21/1/07 at 02:18 PM

It's next door for someone on here, not me though.

David Jenkins - 21/1/07 at 02:25 PM

Anywhere between Silverstone and the midlands (e.g. Donnington) is a possibility...

David

JoelP - 21/1/07 at 04:53 PM

we should get a map which people can tag their location on, and work out where from this. There did use to be a locostbuilders map, but people filled it with shite.

Wadders - 21/1/07 at 05:26 PM

Great circuit, and fairly central, but they are a bit strict on noise levels, It would be a shame for someone who'd travelled a long way to get booted off. Think last time i went it was 98db, i got black flagged twice and then chucked off for good 105Db so they said, £100 for about 8 laps although some trackdays there seem to allow higher Db ? weird really the noise of the planes drowns everything out anyway.
I'll go with the general concensus, It's not so bad travelling a long way if its a 2 day affair, on site camping would be a bonus

plus the facilities are pretty good too.

either way so long as it's not tooooooo far away i'd be very tempted

Chris

procomp - 21/1/07 at 05:29 PM

Hi donnington may be a problem with some off the bec guys due to the 98 db noise limit althogh it is a good venue.

If we can only get numbers in the region of 10-15 people confirmed it would not be to hard to just agree on a date and place of an existing trackday and all book up may even be a chance of getting a small discount if we can confirm 10 or more places.

Keep it going and see what sort off numbers it is likly to be.

cheers matt

procomp - 21/1/07 at 05:35 PM

Bah beat by 3 min regarding donnington noise limit.

What are peoples thoughts on cadwell as there are ussually quite a few trackdays there and also a good venue except for the £5 over night stay charge.

Although the track it's self is loved by regulars it might be a bit of a harsh intro for a first timer.

cheers matt

scutter - 21/1/07 at 05:38 PM

I'll try anything/anywhere once

ATB Dan.

procomp - 21/1/07 at 05:42 PM

Hi

I'll try anything/anywhere once

you may regret saying that if a large number of people of here turn up and alchohol is involved

cheers matt

Hellfire - 21/1/07 at 05:56 PM

We'd be up for it. Anywhere between Brands and Knockhill.

Phil

Guinness - 21/1/07 at 06:16 PM

I'm in.

The NE7ER's have just hired out the Teesside Circuit for another trackday, and they are always a great laugh.

Cadwell would get my vote!

Mike

JoelP - 21/1/07 at 06:28 PM

donnington is probably the fairest location, but the noise level sucks. Cadwell is great, but maybe a little unfair on any welsh/south west people who want to come. Dont know why im suggesting mallory, as ive never been and would prefer cadwell myself, but its location makes it an option i guess.

I suppose we should make a shortlist and then maybe a vote.

JoelP - 21/1/07 at 06:38 PM

rockingham brings back bad memories The name makes me feel cold, must've been a bad day. The oval part is bloody fast (flat out in many cars i guess) but the infield is very good. Nice pit garages too. Not sure they would let us camp though!?

richijenkin - 21/1/07 at 06:42 PM

Howdy.. Ox and I would be up for this.

Hows Oulton Park for a central location??

Rig

welderman - 21/1/07 at 10:15 PM

I'd go for Oulton and so would my mate.
But wait til ive fixed mine first.

rjs - 21/1/07 at 10:19 PM

no takers for snetterton then ?

damien - 22/1/07 at 04:38 AM

bedford autodrome?

andrews_45 - 22/1/07 at 08:51 AM

If not Curborough, then Mallory would get my vote

zxrlocost - 22/1/07 at 10:07 AM

mallory
Oulton

Curborough = NO
its good bit of fun

but its a hairpin one at a time job it wouldnt work

zxrlocost - 22/1/07 at 10:11 AM

I have found like most have already mentioned that the more up there ass smart tracks are the more legislations they have.. ie Donnington

Mallory take themselves quite OTT aswell

greggors84 - 23/1/07 at 01:00 PM

I would be up for most tracks, Ive heard that Cadwell doesnt have much run off and that may scare some people off. Especially if people have driven quite a way in their locosts.

Cadwell or Mallory look favourites so far.

As for Beford, I work for Palmer Sport so will have a word about hiring out part of the circuit, they are always busy up there so wouldnt have much choice of date.

Jon Ison - 23/1/07 at 02:10 PM

Mallory would be nice and central for most I guess, Cadwell can be unforgiving on car and driver.

Mallory also = Fast.

smart51 - 23/1/07 at 02:21 PM

Mallory Park is not the most interesting of circuits. I went there for a track afternoon last year because it was half the price of a full day.

It was enough fun but I worried about oil surge on the long right hand corner.

I'd go back to mallory but only if it was cheap.

JoelP - 23/1/07 at 06:32 PM

only about half of cadwell has little run off, the other half is quite spacious. Its an awesome track really. Myself i wouldnt worry about the run off; as i remember its only about 2 bends that could go badly wrong, other corners might have little run off but are also a little slower.

I dont like the sound of mallory being boring! Cadwell is a very 3d track, up and down.

Stu16v - 23/1/07 at 09:05 PM

Probably wise to consider cost as well. Oulton Park is going to be expensive - fact.
Cadwell Park is usually far more 'reasonable', as is Mallory - With Donington slotted somwhere in the middle.

Not sure of previous comment of Mallory being OTT legislation wise - I've been there at least six times before, and found it to be one of the most 'easygoing' in the country. Whilst they specify noise limits, I have yet to see a decibel meter in action.
Which means some of you BEC boys can play too

oioi - 23/1/07 at 09:33 PM

i would suggest contacting jonny at bookatrack and see what he suggests. he has in the past run "closed" trackdays for a group of people.

remeber if you are organising a locostbuilders only trackday direct with track you will need to sort insurance and st. johns ambulance. some tracks might be able to sort this for you.

nobody has mentioned elvington yet? maybe a bit far north, but cheap and perfect for a beginner, but a bit boring for the more experienced.

smart51 - 24/1/07 at 08:29 AM

Elvington was fun but I RUINED a set of tyres there. The "car park" is concrete not tarmack and the cost of replacement tyres makes it an expensive day.

JoelP - 24/1/07 at 12:33 PM

id perfer to keep away from airfields in general myself, you cant beat a proper circuit. Anyone going to bother starting a poll between cadwell, mallory and a few others?

TangoMan - 25/1/07 at 10:27 PM

I also think Mallory is a bit boring.

Oil surge could kill a few engines if not baffled properly and it doesn't really inspire as a drivers circuit.
