Detling Show?
David Jenkins - 15/2/07 at 06:37 PM

I asked this question in another topic, but decided to re-ask the question properly...

Basically, what's the Detling Show like?

It's within reasonable range for me, and maybe worth taking my toy car to it.

Where's Detling?

I actually quite like it.

If the weather's good like last year there's often quite a big turn out, no pun intended!

And best of all it's 1hour there.... not 8 like most of them!

Cheers,
James

Kent County Showground, near Maidstone. ME14 3JF

(Do a search on your favourite map website to see where that is!)

For me, it's a straightforward drive down the A12, short hop on the M25 over the Dartford Crossing, then turn left for a bit...

I'll be there in me Indyblade.!!

Surley thats enough.?

Its only 20 min from me instead of the usual 8hr drive..

It's only about 30 miles for me so it's one that I go to , the only nearer one is Brands hatch Kit Car Live!

I think detling is OK , any show has limited appeal for me since basically finishing the car , anything I need can be bought online........

It's at the kent County showground on the A249, near Maidstone. The A249 runs between the M2 & M20 - the showground is best accessed from the M20 end.
Watch out for the fixed speed camera before the hill and also for camera vans which sometimes sit a little way after the fixed camera (50mph limit at that stage)

From going to most of the shows at least once, it's not a bad introduction.

Better organised than many but not really too much club action; perhaps due to people still trying to get their cars on the road for Stoneleigh a short time after.

IMHO it was always better than Donnington from a club / trade perspective but Donnington had the track action which swayed in its favour...

I've been for the last few years and initially found it pretty good - loads of stalls full of widgets & doo-dahs which were great when I started the build.

The last two years it dawned on me that it was exactly the same stuff as previous years and nothing new was filtering through (with a few exceptions) The 'Welcome Girlies' were nice though

I'll be going this year but mainly because my car is going to be on one of the exhibition stands (shhh ... its a secret)

Detling show has got a bit bigger since the new hall was build a couple of years ago.

Starting to attract more of the main stream manufacturers from up north who have previously thought it was too far to travel.

If the weather is good (and it often is) it is a good show. However, being so early in the year and on top of the hill, if the weather is poor it is bleak !!!

As the others have said, other than recently introduced Kit Car Live at Brands, this is our only local show.

I went last year and it was ok, good as it's nearish but the main issue with it is that all the traders/manufacturers hold the good/new stuff back for stoneleigh which is normally less than a month later.

Ned.
