hi all,
its a bout a year since i've been back on here,
i'm about to buy another indy bec and was wanting to get some track use and have a go at these hill events i've heard about, where are they and does the car need any saftey things fitted to enter, just wanting to get some use out of this one as i only drove my last one on the roads a little, hence reason i sold,

Well you'll need an MSA license. The Non-Race B license will allow you to do sprints and hillclimbs (AFAIK).

This will get you a copy of the blue book - you'll need it for reference.

Safety gear - you will need a FIA race suit (£200-300), an MSA approved helmet, FIA shoes and gloves.

The car will require an electrical cut off switch, a fire extinguisher to blue book specs and I was advised to go for a 3" 6 point harness.

I'm sure I've left out a load of stuff.... Anyone else care to add anything....?

Not at our hill you don't.

Obviously good safety kit is a good thing, but all you need to comply with the rules are an MSA stickered helmet and a proban suit for about 50 quid.

I did sprints and a hillclimb with the GTM wearing the above with a standard road car lap belt.

Zil's right. In the (normally nannying) UK, our standards for sprint events are much lower than for our Euro cousins. So, if you ever wanted to compete in Ireland, you'd need all the other gear.

I guess it all comes down to where you live!

Or perhaps I am grossly over-prepared!!



Also to clarifiy I was "advised" to go for a 6 point 3" set. This was not a requirement.

My advice is get stuck in and give it a go!

As zilspeed said, if you run in road going classes, just a legal helmet and basic overalls. Master switch not required as long as ignition witch is marked.

What is an MSA rollbar ?. I am interested too but my MK only has a standard rollbar ie. no cross member or rear supports..

MSA rollbar on a seven is usually a hoop, diagonal and backstays.

An important thing is if you were to pull a string line between the top of the hoop and the frontmost solid bit of the car (usually the top of the engine) your helmet must be (I think) 1 - 2 inches below that line.

Most rollover bars don't seem to comply with this which can cause problems at some sprint events. When you think about it, it makes sense to have the roll bar complying with this requirement anyway - even for road use.

Nope

We need to wear a helmet and a suit.

Other than that, mark the ignition switch for off and a bit of yellow tape on the earth lead at the battery.

thanks for the info guys, just bought my new today so i'm well chuffed and i'll be straight out there to have a bit of fun before xmas,

thanks for the info guys must get a kill switch fitted then and mk is fiiting a full roll cage when baz comes back from holiday, just bought my new indy today so well chuffed and can't wait to hammer round these tracks and all that, i've got a my motorcycle helmet so i'll get one of those suits give it a go

A motorcycle helmet may not be to the right standard!
