Speed on wheels today did anyone go?
locoR1 - 5/7/08 at 06:03 PM

Was it any good? Is it worth going or more importantly getting wet!

Providing its not raining tomorrow morning I'm planing on going just hope they've got the forecast wrong again!

clairetoo - 5/7/08 at 06:05 PM

I had to work this morning ............. then it rained , so I watched the F1 qualifying......

Happiness is a car full of grass!

Wasn't going to but there was a break in the weather so got there at 3 - blagged my way in, paid £25 and had the circuit to myself for half and hour bar the hilarious 'race' with the 1.6 Civic pace car which we all enjoyed.

Got a little excited in one of the chicanes and got a pendulum going coming out so ended up on the grass but no damage done.

Then left - Generally only the usual suspects there (Z cars, GD, SDR, etc.) with not a lot else going on.

Some of the manufacturer's cars on the main circuit were having a blast - Really needs a good dry weekend...

No problems with the noise level then Neil

I went to this today and could not believe how quiet a show it was considering the advertising. There were about 8 trade stands in total and because there were no punters, 2 of them packed up by 1.00pm because of no business! It was literally extremely empty of punters except for all the exhibitors. Other than above companies already mentioned also there were vindicator, marlin 5EXi`s, Raw, AGM. The WSCC were the only members club on display with about 7 cars.
I spoke to one of the `CompleteKitcar` magazine bods on their stand and they were bemused why no one was there.
The best thing about it being so quiet though was I managed to get a ride in an Ariel Atom for 3 laps! Holy crap, that thing is amazing, the G force on the bends is unbelievable. I really hope they have a better day tomorrow otherwise the organisers will be well and truly out of pocket I guess.
On the plus side, I went with the missus and kids in the tin top and they only charged admission fees for the adults which was nice.
Being so quiet there was plenty of track time available if anyones up for a blast around the track.

I was thinking of heading to the baldock meet Dave, this looks interesting!

locoR1 - 5/7/08 at 09:29 PM

If it wasn't for the opportunity to get the car on track and have a play i would of gone to the baldock meet!
just hope it doesn't rain to much tomorrow.

cloudy - 5/7/08 at 09:31 PM

Well it was supposed to rain today, and it's been hot - you might be in luck!

I wouldn't mine taking my 406 coupe round the track if it's quiet - R4 still not SVA'd

Are the atom passenger laps free?

James

locoR1 - 5/7/08 at 09:39 PM

Could see you there then mate!

At least you wont get wet in the tin top, sounds like it was quite today with the British GP tomorrow I would expect the same!

If the atom's are free I'm up for a ride in one!

cloudy - 5/7/08 at 09:42 PM

Given as they are the closest thing to my own build - I'd love to see how they perform...

PAUL FISHER - 5/7/08 at 10:43 PM

I am going down for a play in the morning, rain or shine, forcast is not looking good though, but they could be wrong again

ReMan - 5/7/08 at 11:03 PM

I'm guessing the "SHOW" was so quiet because they were charging £15.00 to get in even if you turned up in kit, even after 3:00 o'clock!
Greedy barstewards springs to mind!

I would have happily paid for a bit of track time but by the sounds of things I made the right decision in turning round and going home, the long way, and managing to not get wet in 100 miles

tootall - 6/7/08 at 12:41 AM

im going in morning hopefully weather will be bit better. wanted to spend some money at some trade stands too? picking exhaust and fuel tank up from mk?

bimbleuk - 6/7/08 at 06:33 AM

I should be there giving demo laps on the RAW stand but stupid me made some mods to the car. So its needs a remap as it was running a bit rough but its still strapped to the dyno as the mapper was too busy!

Would have been a nice cheap track day and I like driving in the wet

locoR1 - 6/7/08 at 07:30 AM

Well the suns shining I'm sitting here waiting for mate to turn up so hopefully the weather will hold at least till we get there

See you there!

Dave....

NeilP - 6/7/08 at 08:09 AM

Paul, A couple of decibel inserts from Jetex fitted in the week and it was 95dBA on the test

I told the lad on the gate that I wasn't paying £15 to come in for the last 2 hour when I had to pay extra to go on the circuit and told him I was more than happy to enjoy the drive home again so we came to a deal...

Very weird show - Think that the weather forecast being $h1te all week did it's damage.

cloudy - 6/7/08 at 11:23 AM

I hear it's pretty wet down there today

James

PAUL FISHER - 6/7/08 at 03:09 PM

Just got back, heavy rain all morning, outlook did not look good,so packed up and came home, only managed 10 laps on my slicks, well had a bit of fun anyway.
But the show was poor,I think even if the weather had been better,it would have still been a poor show, charging kit car drivers £15 to get in,its the kit car drivers that make the show, they are the show, most people I know go to a kit car show to look and have a chat with other kit car owners, and other people interested in kit cars go to look at other peoples cars.
The other thing that annoyed me was the parts suppliers, car builders solutions etc, packing up and going home,I spoke to couple of locostbuilders who had attended the show hoping to pick up a few items,so a expensive day for nothing for them,if half the show is to pack up and go home, then the entry fee should have been refunded

skidude88 - 6/7/08 at 03:47 PM

Yesterday....

Arrived just before 15:00 - it threw it down as I pulled in.

They wanted 15 quid for My pleasure, so told 'em to bollox and turned round and left (in the rain, which stopped when I got back to the garage, 10 mins later).

Emptied my fuel tank into ReMans and then removed my fuel tank to do work on it.

So, stuff the show!

locoR1 - 6/7/08 at 04:38 PM

Just got home, Managed to get there relatively dry but as Paul said it rained all morning so didn't fancy the track in those conditions!
It did dry up a bit later on but still looked very wet on the far side of the track and with hardly anything on track didn't see the point in wasting another £35 on a 1/2 hour session for me and my daughter.

Saw you out on track Paul didn't realize you were on slicks your either mad or a lot braver than me

By dinner time zcars and a few of the other manufactures had gone shortly followed by Mk and most of the others had packed up. what a waste of £30 for the two of us to get in.

I appreciate the weather played a part in the poor showing but £15 each was a bit steep especially when you driving a kit car overall very disappointed should of stayed at home and watched the GP.

If its on next year I wont be going! Unless its free to kit car drivers and reasonable to passengers!

And to top it all off on the way home we got drenched in probably the biggest downpour I've ever seen, the A14 was like a river was down to less than 30mph at one point and could hardly see where I was going!

Just off to bail the inch of water out the car

Dave.......

cloudy - 6/7/08 at 05:10 PM

Sounds like you several of you were burned by this one, send complaints to the organisers! Free entry to kit cars would make it a nice cheap trackday...

Glad I stayed home!

James

tcr - 6/7/08 at 08:07 PM

we managed to blag a spot on the gbs stand which meant we had free access to the track all day ,if it wasnt for that i would have been dissapointed as it was alot of money for a poor show a discount for kit drivers would have been apreciated
