Anyone from here going?

Noticed a few Tigers.

coozer - 13/10/08 at 04:23 PM

Whats on? Open pit track day, Javelin??

Avoneer - 13/10/08 at 05:33 PM

Na, 20 min sessioned, but there's a cracking mix of cars.

Me and Indykid will be there, but not in a kit.

Pat...

Andy D - 13/10/08 at 06:45 PM

Me and ma' boy Pete will be in the intermediate group in this;

It went really well at Anglesey last Friday in the wet.

coozer - 13/10/08 at 07:08 PM

If the weathers Ok and IF the MNR is back together I may have drive down

Need to get me finger out!

Avoneer - 13/10/08 at 07:17 PM

Have you booked a garage?

Me and Tom (Indykid) will be there in this:

No, dont need a garage, we've got a roof. Couple of other pals booked in too, Honda Intergra, and a 2lt Nova. Proper little tin top battle.

Hoping we dont have bother with the noise, cos the Civic sure sounds loud at full chat. Have an add on little Merlin silencer just in case.

Avoneer - 13/10/08 at 08:09 PM

Come and say 'ello then and be gentle with us if your in the same group!

Pat...

Andy D - 13/10/08 at 09:05 PM

I've got a feeling the groups will be re-shuffled, looking at the numbers. There are twice as many novices and intermediates as experts.

Will come and say hello.

Andy D - 18/10/08 at 10:49 AM

The weather forecast is looking very FWD hatchback friendly. Shame, cos we wanted to see how the Civic goes in the dry..

bigfoot4616 - 18/10/08 at 03:12 PM

have fun

keep meaning to ask you, is there any more footage from anglesey? mainly from when the civic was behind me.
not that it was ever stuck behind me for long

We managed to fill three hours of tape at Anglesey, I'm sure your in there somewhere. Will get Pete to put something together.

bigfoot4616 - 18/10/08 at 07:40 PM

ok. cheers

indykid - 19/10/08 at 06:15 PM

was an absolutely brilliant day. between the weather changes we got some very slippy slidey and encouragingly grippy laps in. if only it wasn't for that silly bloody astra binning it or breaking down on pat's laps, it'd've been perfect.

if you get round to looking through the footage andy, i know i'd be interested to see pat's tankslapper in the first session!

nice to put a face to a name and have a chat anyway. it's a rapid civic you've got yourself there!

hope you got back safe
tom

Andy D - 19/10/08 at 08:59 PM

Yep, echo those comments, cracking day. A lot drier than I was expecting.

Will try to get Pete to put together some MX5 footage, in the meantime there's a bit of video HERE

coozer - 19/10/08 at 09:52 PM

Andy! were you there? I was there for about 3 hours and didn't see ya

indykid - 19/10/08 at 10:03 PM

i kept my eye out for your car on the offchance coozer. did you come in the MNR?

we were parked down the grandstand end of the paddock, away from all the chavs

tom

PAUL FISHER - 19/10/08 at 11:24 PM

Looks like he's quickly getting to grips with the civic now,and that little nova had some grunt in a straight line, although he looked a bit unsteady in the corners, what size and type of tyres are you running on the civic?

Avoneer - 20/10/08 at 06:47 AM

Wer'e sure that Nova has Nos and it was running on slicks.

We could catch him in the corners.

And yep - Andy's Civic was flying.

I'll get my footage sorted for every time you flew past!

Pat...

Yup, was double driving my son, Pete's Civic. Bet you were looking for a green Westy?

That was the first time we'd driven the car in the dry, was well chuffed with the road holding. Tyres are 195 50 15 Toyo 888s. The Nova has a 2lt red top fitted, with nos, but he swears he wasn't using the nos! It ended up with 888s on the front and slicks on the rear.

And a few pics from the day...

coozer - 20/10/08 at 02:15 PM

Sorry to miss you all, I was there from about 9.30 but not in the MNR Not quite ready yet but did a bit more when I got back. Just cycle wings and coolant to go

Was hiding in the garage area due to the rain and cold at the beginning of the morning. Spoke to my mate Bob who had the blue Scooby and Darren Wake turned up as well!

The Nova did look canny fast and it had a big NOS bottle in the back!
Have to say the most impressive car was that big BMW saloon. M3 was it? Super fast down the home straight and silent.

Keeping out the house cause she's not speaking still.

Andy D - 20/10/08 at 02:36 PM

Bloody hell. Darren W there, and he didn't say hello!

Think the BMW was a new M5, we were thinking it'd have all the electronics switched on and a sat nav saying, "brake, and turn in now!"

DarrenW - 20/10/08 at 02:49 PM

I called in for half an hour at 11.30. Only saw Steve who i recognised. I was looking out for you Andy but didnt see you.

DarrenW - 20/10/08 at 02:51 PM

The BMW i saw looked like new shape M3. Dark graphite grey colour. Very nice indeed. Also a nice Alpina B10 in car park (mid blue S-reg).

indykid - 20/10/08 at 03:33 PM

there was an m3 and an m5 there. the M3 was quick. the M5 was absolutely ballistic.

whether the m5 was driven by someone with a heap of skill or if it was just making it up on the straights, it was making maybe 4 or 5 seconds a lap on everything else, every lap.

tom

Avoneer - 20/10/08 at 04:04 PM

Yep - that M5 was probably the fastest thing there - it was catching and taking the BEC Avon all the time.

Pat...

Andy D - 20/10/08 at 04:29 PM

I think the M5 was probably this bloke HERE I think he's a regular... Nippy car for a big un!

It looks like a combination of it being well driven, and they are very quick on the straights, its probably the same guy who was at Cadwell when I was last there,he give it beans down the straights so you could not get passed, then held you up through the corners, a equally well driven decent power seven should be a few seconds a lap quicker round croft than a big barge M5.

Andy D - 20/10/08 at 08:58 PM

Bit more video footage, including some Pat & Tom MX5 clips.

More Croft video clips

Avoneer - 20/10/08 at 09:16 PM

Your car does sound sweet - especially when you get up to 8k plus!

That white integra was being a bit arsy wasn't it!

Anway, wait till I get my turbo this xmas.

Pat...

Avoneer - 20/10/08 at 09:18 PM

Oops, forgot too say just editing my footage.

There's not much of your Civic - only when it flies past!

Are you using a standard DV cam as the quality is very good.

Pat...

PAUL FISHER - 20/10/08 at 10:19 PM

You could see the Integra driver did not like getting passed, and the typical M3 driver and why should I wait for everyone to let me passed, the little clio cup was going well, quick little cars them clio's

Andy D - 21/10/08 at 12:26 PM

Standard mini DV camcorder, Sony..

White Intergra is a mate, and yes, it's usually nessessarry to force a way past. In that last clip, Pete was actually passengering with him. He said it was weird seeing me in his car passing him!

Paul, Cleo is the future! I could hang on to him quite easily, apart from the run up to and out of the hairpin. Up to the hairpin I should have been down to second, and out of the hairpin the Cleo's sequencial (I think...) box worked better.

BM driver... well, frustration got the better of him I suppose.. I our group there were two desperately slow cars, and they tended to bunch loads of cars up behind them.

Avoneer - 21/10/08 at 06:53 PM

Us and that damn porshe!

Oh, and those astras that kept coming off and forcing red flags.

Pat...

Avoneer - 22/10/08 at 06:23 AM

There's a brilliant quote on one of my tapes.

I asked Tom what was the radical doing.

He said it must be broken.

I said definately, it had just used a brake light!

Anyway, a couple of clips for starters:

Thanks Pat, much appreciation from team "pesky"

So, are all those wobbly clips the same driver?

Avoneer - 22/10/08 at 06:17 PM

Mostly Tom on the vid, but I had the big "off" in the morning. Fortunately the camera wasn't working!

Just editing a really long one where Tom had a full session of really good quick consistant laps.

Started behind you as well and you disappeared pretty quick.

Roll on xmas when I get the Turbo fitted - that should put me upto aboout 185 bhp and a lot more torque to try and keep up!

Pat...

Should go well, looking at your in car vid. ...then you'll want better brakes, tyres, cage, etc etc....

Avoneer - 22/10/08 at 10:29 PM

Already got the half cage.

Tyres are awesome - not quite 888's, but work better in the wet (just not on slippy Croft!).

Brakes are already done - big grooved and vented discs and ceramic pads.

That and the P5 coilvers, poly bushes and all the bracing......

Only thing left to do is the turbo.....

Just uploading that vid now.

Pat...

yep, all the wobbly ones are me but from what i can remember, they're all from the second session just after it'd rained and we'd adjusted the shocks up and running 10 clicks front and back. was suffering quite a lot of understeer but with the rear dampers knocked down a click we were back on the money.

the running gear's begging for a turbo!
