Detling 09

Thinking of making the trip to Detling. It may not be the best in terms of shows, but it's the one that fits my schedule... I'll be there to pick up some parts, many of which may prove actually useful in my car build. Will there be an auto jumble?

i have been going to detling every year and it keeps getting better, apart from the Pi55 pouring rain and hailstones.... last year would have been the best yet !!!!

usually loads of part stalls there

I think there is some auto jumble stuff but more the normal bits - u trim, switches etc. I went last year and was good although i prefered donington. If its dry id go this year but if it rains id probably stay at home. Do you know when it is as ive completely forgotten

For God's sake, don't tell my wife about possible rain! I've convinced her it'll be more fun that the Ligurian Coast of Italy.

See you there

Maybe.....in toy car

And don't worry about the rain - it'll probably be a gloriously sunny weekend as it's a bank holiday

Don't forget your shades and suncream!

I'll probably got because it's close by... as long as there's not the freezing downpour that we had last year!

Interesting that it's actually on Easter weekend this year - normally it's a Saturday and Sunday around the same time.

Does anybody know if they will have the timed runs on the small drag strip this year?

OK, now where is a good place to stay? Is walking from Maidstone an option? It seems close. The last time I was in the area was 1978, and for some reason don't remember much, except the race.

We won't have a car, no B + B's (she doesn't like B + B's). Don't suggest camping... Thanks!!

Maidstone is not far but it is no walk, probably a reasonably costly cab ride at best.

Thanks anyways Ash! I'm in new territory. I've never been to the UK and had to comply with 1. No B and B's. 2. No camping 3. no hostels. We'll be staying in Maidstone somewhere and hope we can scrounge a ride to the Fairgrounds somehow... I'm not sure I want to rent a car and learn to drive shifting on the left etc.

ouch. well, I've been in many many cars in the UK and have never felt anything but abject fear on that wrong side of the road! No probs driving the Autobahn in Deutschland though, although the 3 cm tailgaiting at 160 kph is a bit weird.
