FORMULA STUDENT 2007 - HELP & SPONSORS REQUIRED
Having now been appointed as a Lecturer in the Science & Technology department of Bell College (in Hamilton) I've been entrusted with the
apparently thankless task of mentoring the Formula Student team...
The team has competed in the last 3 events without much success, but we plan to change that for 2007 with a much improved car. No doubt something
similar was said last year, and the year before, etc. but we really mean it this time!
Honest.
In all seriousness, we need help and sponsors in all aspects of the venture, everything from money and parts, to marketing and promotional material
(e.g. brochures, media, web-site, apparel, stickers, etc.). If you are involved with a company that you think could contribute something to our cause,
please get in touch via PM.
There's a real opportunity here to get involved with a competition that we aim to be successful and be recognised in. There's a small band
of keen students already working on it and they've made some good progress, but morale is low and the project currently isn't something
other students want to get involved in because of the previous reputation.
With your help, we could change that; hopefully turning the B.Eng Motorsport course - unique in Scotland - into something that more new students will
be keen to join. This will undoubtedly have the knock-on effect of getting Scotland recognised as a country serious about motorsport.
With momentum being built in this sector through the new Scottish Motorsport Show (where we will be displaying) and the 'Motorsport
Scotland' venture, there's never been a better time to get involved.
As an added incentive, the college has modern Longacre corner weight and suspension set-up equipment, which could be made available along with the
necessary expertise to those contributors wanting their car's set-up...

Can't help with the funding I'm sorry, I'm teaching on a BTEC course directed towards motorsport, which will hopefully progress on
to B/Eng if we ever get the right learners. We are just starting to assemble an indyblade.
It would be interesting if anyone else on here is involved in education.

Might be worth dropping Jackie Stewart a line. I'm sure he could drum up some sponsorship.

I am one of the coordinators for warwicks car at the moment. We have a team of 8 people working on sponsorship (amognst doing other stuff). I think
our last car cost about £27k to build, so aim to raise a hell of a lot of sponsorship! Unfortunately if you havent been at it already, a lot of
sponsors will have been poached by other FS teams.
I have been involved for the past 3 years on and off. My only advice would be keep it simple, elegant and simple solutions are the best! Get the car
built quickly so you can test it, and make sure there is a good team structure so everyone knows what they are doing.
You know what you are doing when it comes to cars, so take the bull by the horns and get really involved in the project, its hard work, but ultimately
its very rewarding.
I cant help with sponsorship, and obviously cant give away too much about our new car either, but I can try to help you with any questions.

TRI - your hired! Be at the next Formula Student meeting on Friday 17th, downstairs in the computer room at the end of the workshops. There's
plenty of projects still to be picked up! Or, better still, come find me on Monday (same office as Jim Mooney)
Flak Monkey - you're right, of course. The team are late, but not yet too late. Hopefully, with my foot in their collective ar5es things will
get done!

£27k!!
the imperial college car costs £12k, isnt the limit something like £13.5k ($25k) to build the car so where is all the extra cash going? our total
budget is roughly £14k per year with 37 people building the car in total.
tadltd the best way to build a car on a low budget is to try and get stuff done with large discounts or better yet free rather than asking for cash
and paying full price for external suppliers.

It didnt "cost" that much, but when you take into account all the other expenses building the car it adds up to quite a lot when you do
your costing. We print booklets, sponsorship leaflets, posters etc. You get parts given to you etc etc. At all seems to add up pretty quickly.
We have just come back from a race day at bruntingthorpe...broke a stub axle though, so that put an end to that
