Thames Valley Se7ens meet
OK guys now the F27 is up and running we are looking for events/venues.
Went to Newlands on Sunday and it was great to meet a few of the names from here, nice'ish drive but too many Sunday dawdlers on the way there
and back.
What suprises me is that given the size of the Thames Valley there isn't a meet closer than Newlands (unless I've missed something).
So how about a regular meet closer to Reading/Bracknell/Maidenhead?
There's a pub called (appropriately) The Seven Stars on the A4 at Knowle Hill between Reading and Maidenhead. Not only is there a pub but quite
a large section of the old road outside it which will take a fair few cars. There are also some great driving roads in the area, especially into the
Chilterns around Henley and across towards Watlington.
A quick call to the landlord reveals he's car friendly, opens 12 - 10 on a Sunday but for 12+ takers will do a full breakfast for about £5 from
10 o'clock on providing it's pre-booked.
So how about it?
Is it worth suggesting it on other Se7en forums?
Cheers, Pewe

problem I would think is that WLM members are mainly Newlands way rather than Reading way. This time of year an extra half hour journey time could mean
a soaking or limb/bodypart loss due to frostbite

I'd certainly be interested, nice and local for me. Knowl Hill was discussed as a possible venue a while back, with the cafe, just up the road
in mind. IIRC we gave up on the idea when we discovered the cafe was shut Sundays......
Not sure how well the pre-booking idea would work though - trying to find 12 people willing to turn up for a breakfast, even if the heavens have
opened, may not be easy. I think most people prefer a more impromptu type of meet, where they can turn up as they please - if the Landlord could be
persuaded more along these lines, it could be a winner.
I reckon you'll probably need the support of other clubs though, I think a lot of the Newlands regulars are well south of here.

IIRC, There's somtimes a se7ens meet at the shoulder of mutton just off the A33 near Wellington Country Park.
Happy to join in a local meet when the car's back on the road, though...
If there was a decent car park, I'd suggst the gorge cafe in reading.
I'll rack me brains for a localish greasy spoon...

Thanks for the responses - sounds as if it will be worth a go.
I'll drop in to chat to the landlord and see if he's willing to provide tea, coffee and butties ad hoc from 10am onwards as I know a lot
of people don't want a drive out to go into the afternoon. Even so 1200 isn't that bad if most peoiple are fairly local.
GaryM is right about Westfield but they use the Bird in Hand just down the road 2nd Sun each month at 1200.
Any preferences for which Sunday - 1st or 3rd?
Cheers, Pewe
PS Steve you need to buy one of those sheepskin pouches to protect the nether regions in frosty weather - Billy Connoly swears by them to avoid p*nile
numbness.

Obviously best to avoid a clash with the Newlands meet, but after a recent protracted discussion about moving it to a different date, the subject of
'Which weekend' has probably become a bit of a 'touchy' area...
It was eventually decided (I think...) that the 'official' Newlands meet would be on the third Sunday, but any other weekend is also up
for grabs if the weather plays ball.
This seems to have worked pretty well over the last few weeks, so I suppose the best advice (if you're planning this as a regular meet) would be
to avoid the third Sunday, but I reckon any other weekend should be fair game?

Given the chance i would go out every sunday morning for a run and a bit of breakfast, a different venue would be nice and only about 5 miles more
than my newlands run.
Its hard to set a date in stone as we are always weather dependant anyway, so really if its not hacking down with rain i'm there.
