Mercedes World
No 1 son and I went there today. Good job it was free and not too far from us here in Reading.
They reckon it's a thrilling experience - no it ain't.
Best part was watching idiots trying to drive on the skid pan knowing they were paying £75 for 30 mins.
Simulators - forget it - not working.
Virtual factory tour - forget it - not working.
Oh but if Sir is interested in a new or secondhand Merc we'll take your order.
Not interested in a Merc? No problem we'll sell you a Smart or a Maybach or even an AMG.
More like a trip to a glorified car sales showroom but with a few old pictures and old cars thrown in.
If you want to see some proper cars go to Brooklands next door.
Rant over - just hope it saves someonelse a wasted trip.
Cheers, Pewe

pewe, I worked on the electrics when it was being built.
It is a cool set up building wise and I wouldn't mind the test track, even if it is a bit narrow!
I did also get to work on the Maclaren headquarters in woking. I saw the slr being built. It was like operating theatres instead of a garage!
Pity that the buildings are better than what they were trying to do!

You should have driven straight past Mercedes world parked in the next car park and visited the Brooklands museum instead

Nitram , you're right the building is amazing - thought the computer controlled blinds were exceptional.
Rumour has it that cost over-run (yours?) on the building meant Mercedse had to shed 300 jobs.
Also selling cars from there has upset the dealer network as they are putting out more units than most of the dealers.
Bob's right as well - I just pitied the families who had obviously made a spoecial trip and didn't know or realise ther was a real museum
next door.
Cheers, Pewe
