Driving holiday - Anyone interested?

Anyone interested in driving down to the south of france next summer (end of july/beginning of august)?

Get the ferry from Dover over to Calais and then drive around the coast to Rochefort. Then back up the short cross country route?

Accomodation would be campsites, stopping in a different place each night on the way down and back. Taking about 5 or 6 nights on the way down, and 2 or 3 on the way up.

Details obvioulsy need sorting, but I want to gauge interest first

All welcome, tintop, seven or bike. Can meet in a couple of places on the way down to Dover.

Cheers,
David

I'm interested depending on dates.

Hopefully I'll have some sort of bimini hood sorted by then just in case we're unlucky with the weather at any point!

Hi Dave,

I probably won't be able to make it on those days, but just as a suggestion (and feel free to tell me to mind my own business!) it might be better to have one or two of those days as non driving days... I know this is a driving forum and I know we all love driving, but when I went to the Nurburgring last year, the driving/riding was good, but we loved the days where we just relaxed aswell!!!

Anyway, just an idea, all the best, and I am jealous of everone who goes!

Steve

The itinery is up for discussion. Nothing set in stone. If people want a couple of non-driving/minimal driving days then we can fit some in no doubt all depends how far we want to go etc. Its about 700miles on the way down, which would only be 2 days solid driving anyway, so theres plenty of time for messing about on the way down and sightseeing etc.

Of course a couple of tintops to load up with stuff would be handy, think my mates coming in his Nissan 200, so thats one boot

Once I know some people can definately make it then discussions can take place on the actual route and itinery if people have some prferences.

David

I would be interested in meeting up. I am going on a course in Lyon in the second week of July and had thought of driving down and taking a leisurely route back. Would be able to meet up with the convoy.

Let me know

The route actually stops at La Rochelle at the moment, not Rochefort

There are loads of campsites around the coastal route, found a website with loads listed on:
http://www.campingfrance.com/index.jsp?lg=uk

I am not sure whether it would be worth booking them in advance or just take it as it comes, because if you book up it means you have to make it to certain places each day. The other way you can at least take it at your own pace and not be tied to stopping in any one place.

There is also the choice of ferry or euro tunnel, think they are both about the same cost and the ferry should be a more sociable crossing.

Can those who are definately interested, and can make it, let me know? I would like between 5 and 10 cars ideally

Cheers,
David

I'm interested but have no idea if I can make it for sure due to work commitments etc.

Is there anything that needs booking up that solidly this far in advance?

Nope, just seeing if there are enough people interested to make it worth doing otherwise I will use the time to go somewhere else

What sort of budget do you think it will be for everything bar petrol? I've already got 4 holidays booked next year, but this sounds like a cracker!

Ferry is about £140 return, camping is between 20 and 30 euros per night.

I'm fairly sure I won't have my car finished by then, but I do have a new bike being delivered on Friday. Is that Nick in the Nissan?

Brand new Triumph Daytona 675, in black, with all the carbon bits on it.

I've got the engine for the car in the garage now, but it's got to come out of the garage again so I can do my cambelt and balljoints on my 106
