My current steel tank is held in by straps with a threaded bar welded to either end to tension them.
The tank I will be getting made by Joe is going to be wider than the curent one so it will cover the holes in the chassis that the straps are mounted
through. I saw a post the other day saying that MNR and MK didn't suppy straps with their tanks and were advising customers to use sikaflex to
bond the tanks it.
Is this advisable as it seems the easiest way forward for me.
Thanks
Shaun
what if you need to take it out for any reason? Can you not drill new hols for straps?
Yep MK Sikaflex their tanks to the chassis now.
I did consider this but having re-done a few bits myself since, I decided to use straps, but instead of rubber pads I lined them with heavy duty
velcro I bought of an automotive supplier. Even with the straps undone its a bit of a sod to get the tank out, so I know it would work.
Err, my MNR kit came with tank straps. Strips of alli, got be easy and cheaper than bonding.
Why O why do peeps go the hard way??
i personally would fix the tank down with straps or bolts, some tanks have brackets welded to them so you can mount them to your frame work, PU is good and i swear by it, but if it was me i wouold bolt it down somehow
Bonding seems quite strange for a fuel tank.
What woul be the advantage?
don't fix the tank via tabs welded to it. If you have a crash the tabs stay where they are and the tank moves .... ruptured tank.
Straps is best.
i went to MK cash in hand for some straps but they sent me away and told me to use Sikaflex, i thought it was odd at first but then i guess they've probably built more cars than all of us put together??
