Modifing MSA Roll Bar?
coozer - 21/6/10 at 08:49 AM

My car has an MSA type roll bar.. I would like to add the front hoop and stays to make a full cage but would like to make the front bit removable. Current bar is welded to the chassis.

So, drilling two holes in the top of the bar and welding crush tubes in for the front stays is the plan.

Does that compromise the approval of the original set up?

Steve

I don't know the direct answer to your question, but if you look in a copy of the MSA (RAC) Blue book you will find some drawings of standardised joints and fixing methods for roll bars/ cages.

If its a certificated roll bar then any changes to it will invailidate the approval, if its based on the the MSA drawings in the blue book and the revisions dont compromise or go against the regs set out in the blue book then its ok.

I believe that's 100% correct
