Removeable cage
Can anyone forsee any probs if I do the following (planning on using an MK cage):
The two front legs will sit on plates iside the cockpit on each side and at the bottom of the chassis and will be bolted through from underneath to a
captive nut inside the legs.
The very rear sloping legs (coming down from the main hoop) will also bolt through plates at the far back bottom corners of the chassis.
Can the main hoop (behind your head) be dropped onto two "stubs" of slightly narrower tube welded to the square plates and held in place
by a horizontal bolt which goes through the hoop and the "stub" and comes out the other side?
Hope that makes sense???
Cheers,
Pat...

Hi Pat,
Fozzie is the person you need to speak to, she has a removeable MK cage identical to mine (although a little bit lower).
It does actually bolt in and I can't see why it can't be done exactly as you describe wherby it bolts to plates on the floor, two plates
where you normally fit the roll bar and two at the rear corners. What you could do is then have a bolt on roll bar that can be removed and replaced
with the cage.
One word of warning, mine comes really near the dash and makes getting the dash out without removing the scuttle almost impossible and also the dash
had to be quite thin.
If you go for one like mine I would suggest making it a tad further away from the dash at the front, maybe only 10-20mm but it will make fitting the
dash much easier.
HTH,
Rich.

Hi Shortie,
The main prob I have is fitting the normal roll bar as the bracket for the rear shocker is directly under the plate (live axle) so I can't bolt
through or around the normal "squares".
I though this would be the easiest solution.
Cheers for the info on the dash and I'll bear that in mind when everything falls into place.
Did you get my U2U about how you wired the savage Hazard switch and a copy of your latest diagram would be great.
Cheers,
Pat...

Pat,
Yes I do have the bolt in variety of MK roll cage, which as Rich says, is the same, but slightly shorter (in height).
The first consideration:-
Are you racing your car?
If so, then you will have to adhere to the 'Blue Book' regs.
If not, then what you plan, sounds fine!
For SVA, dont put the bolts upwards, but put them facing down, oh and use nylocks.

Hi Fozzie,
Cheers - not planning on racing her so that makes it easier.
Not sure what you mean about the bolts though. I was planning on having a plate welded inside the ends of the cage tubes where they meet the chassis
with a nut welded onto this plate, then when the cage is in place, a socket cap bolted from underneath, through the chassis and into this nut inside
the tube - does that make sense?

Pat,
If its just for 'looks' then, ok, but for your own safety, that wont be strong enough, you will need spreader plates.

Hi Fozzie,
The following pics show the plates that wil be fully welded to my chassis.
Are you saying that I should also weld a plate the same size onto the ends of the roll bars and then bolt?
What would I need to do to comply with the MSA regs?
Any ideas for the main "normal" hoop mountings that won't interfere with the shocker bracket underneath?
Cheers,
Pat...

Yes, absolutely...
MSA...Have to consult the latest Blue Book, mines being 'borrowed' at the moment, but, IIRC there are a few options, and include a good
diagram of the 'spreader' do you know a mate nearby you that has one?...worth a squizz.
Shocker bracket.....Threaded steel bushes, welded into the tubes.

Pat,
Your front plates are sadly not big enough or strong enough.
The plate should ideally be 5 inches x 5 inches and the plate at least 3mm thick, (same for all 6 plates)

Will re-do the front ones and make them bigger. They are 4" on the sides and made from 3mm plate though.
Have you used 4 bolts on all the plates then?
Saying that, might be easier now to weld said spreader plates to the tubes and weld the whole thing in place!
Do you think I will need spreader plates on the "normal" hoop?

Sorry for delay Pat... I needed to confer on one of ya questions.
The way the front legs come down, means only 3 bolts on those.
We have a difference here in fozzie-land, I reckon there are 4 bolts on the very rear, t'other half says 3.....ah well, I will go stick me head
down the rear (ooeer) later to confirm!
Yes, (for safety) you will need spreader plates on the hoop!

Tee-hee M.O.G. ..
Yup it is the formulae, but wasn't too sure that it should have been here, or on the harness mounting thread.
