bulkhead tray

Sorry not at home so no pic, just a bad drawing, but I'm concerned about the area where the tranny goes. There is always a bulkhead across the scuttle, and another piece of ally fit horizontally, over the transmission, that people usually mount their batteries etc to. Are you with me?

Question: is it necessary to bolt in a piece of ally over this (usually over the whole width of the chassis), or can this middle area be left open. I was thinking it may improve engine cooling if left open.

I can't really comment on this topic (I've got a removable plate in that location to give access to the gearbox lid), but I must say that jacko's engine installation looks like the mutt's nuts!

This is my attempt:

Scuttle Dash
Scuttle Dash

Looks better than the picture portrays. 3 single panels sunk in. I did it mainly because the scuttle and bonnet wouldn't sit flat on the chassis rails if I'd have put a single piece in.
I've polished the 2 left ones and got stainless bolts in them but it ain't showing in the photo.

Thank you chaps! (Hey I'm new at this mod UK English thing - my family's been away about 5 generations, except for one of my dear departed grandmas - soon enough I'll be spelling tire "tyre" and getting all "chuffed" (whatever that means)).

I was worried it was going to affect structural integrity if it were open. That battery placement is "brilliant" though isn't it?? See, I'm learning!

Mine is the same as Mr Grumpy's. Does'nt it take out torsional stiffness by not having the extra bar at the bulkhead. My Redtop 25 gel battery is in the back over the wheels.
