Advice needed
I have the chance of buying the first prototype of frank costin and roger nathan....costin nathan spider...i need to find someone to help me to cost
the restoration.

How far has it progressed since that pic was undertaken?
My understanding is that that's what it looked like back in 2009, but that the owner was slowly but steadily progressing with restoration?
Has it had a new windscreen, yet (you can't see it in that pic, but the windscreen is/was badly cracked, I think)? Front and rear subframes
restored?
Condition of the plywood tub assessed, and restored where necessary?
You will appreciate, I'm sure, that this is a historically very important car, and that both this and the restored value (count on a six-figure
sum, in the current market) mean that you need to make sure that the job is done properly.
All these things will obviously impact hugely on the cost of restoration, and you'll need at least two separate specialists, I would suggest
(one for the brazed subframes and mechanicals, the other for the tub).
For the mechanical side of things, I would suggest one of the several companies who specialise in restoration and prep of '60's race cars.
For example; local to me:
Retro Track and Air
For the tub, you need someone experienced in Marcos/Costin plywood monocoques, so perhaps Friend Wood or Michael Royson would be good people to talk
to.
Whereabouts are you based?

Little as been done to the c-n since 2009...it needs a full restoration i think. Thinking of restoring it back to the lovely c-n back in 65-66 when
roger won everything in its class as a open top. We still have the original quarter windscreens and half doors.
I live near Manchester.....

That's odd, and doesn't entirely tally with other information I have seen on the car.
I have edited my post above, to suggest companies/individuals who may be appropriate.
No disrespect to Retropower, but I'd suggest that its well outside their comfort zone and range of experience.
I specifically thought of Retro Track and Air, near me, because they have the dual experience of '60's race car and WWII aircraft
restoration, and some of Costin's approach (for example, reamed, close tolerance bolts of much smaller size than would be normal in the race car
industry) are rooted in aviation practice.
Forgive me for being confused/sceptical, but it seems a little odd that you registered on the Locost forum to seek advice on a very
specialised, valuable and historically important car (which I just happen to know a fair bit about ).
As I said, if you're genuine and serious, U2U me... it's probably best to keep more detailed discussion off-forum in any case.

Thanks sam i can understand were your coming from. I have been interested in in the c-n for 20years but and wanting to fully restore it. I know the
full history and was privilege to meet roger himself when he flew over from South Africa to be reunited with it.
Ive always been in love with the little c-n.....sad to say that my friend has passed away. And i want to restore it in his name.
Get it back to what it should be...the mother of all costins

That looks like a Helluva lot of work, but, as Sam says, once done the car should be worth proper money.
Truly hope you get the car restored!
