Make sure you get everything !!

By some small miracle I managed to get a W reg MK2 for a doner. I was a bit pushed to get rid of the shell as it was an eyesore. Turns out I didn't get all the little bits ... speedo / clutch / hand brake cable, probably lots more yet to hit me !
These bits are gonna cost me ... If you get a full car ..... get what you need and more, you can always bin it if it's no good.

Once bitten twice ...... (won't be a twice, even if the once gets finished)

I managed a similar feat! was a bit happy with the angle grinder and cut through the clutch cable! I've found it easier to just plod through the build and when I come across a part thats either knackered or I threw away get a new one. Classic Ford mag is a good source for new bits and if you hunt around abit they can be cheap, Partco and the likes are cheap too.

The hardest part is finding the front hubs and uprights for a cortina. I've found a local banger racer who uses cortina's, which cost me £20 each, and I might be able to get some more if you need some! I've heard that Hyundai (damn speeelling) made a cortina, called the Steller/Stellar (not the beer - unfortunately) so you can use the uprights from that as long as it's pre 93 or something like that.

Ebay proves a usefull hunting ground to get bit's, but sometimes they can be expensive. Best thing for there is if you see something you like, find out how much it is new and make a calculated bid on how much your prepared to pay, dont forget to inclued the postage in it, as I did once, thinking £20 for a nosecone was GREAT! until I found out the postage was £20.

The book list's all the bits you need from the donor vehicle and as long as you got most of the big stuff - engine, diff, prop, wiring loom, your in good shape!

Hope this helps a little

Chris
