which Handbrake to use

Hi everyone,
Which donor car did your handbrake come from?
Which one is best?
what cables did you use?
anything about handbrakes would be a great help for my locost.

I used a metro one, the mounting holes are verticala and in line. has the hand brak elight switch built on it, and its quite petite so doesn't look too big.

had to cobble together a link to sierra h/brake cable, used a couple of saqmll cable clamps to secure the two cables to my linkage.

i think i welded a bit of threaded rod to the metro linkage.(it was 5 yrs ago)

good luck

I am using a Lotus Elan under dash umbrella handle with a cable made from motorbike bits with a home made intermediate lever unit pulling on a pair of allegro cables for the Capri axle! I am still working on the spring for the intermediate lever to overcome the friction when you release the handle. Once done this gives a good fly off and no lever to smash your elbow on.

Volvo 480 lever assembly with shortened Cortina cable assembly. Switch is included used to test brake fluid warning light.

sierra one is the standard. i think escort ones (late escort) are better and are most compatible with aftermarket addons (such as chrome handles, leather gaiters, etc)

Toyota Corolla lever and cables.

There's a photo of the lever mounting and cables etc... in my archive.
