what is swg?

i am going to buy some steel but i dont know what swg means. what wall thickness should the RHS and Round steel tube be?

16 swg is about 1.6mm wall thickness

swg = Standard Wire Gauge. This is an old material thickness measure, which, as its name indicates, originates with the dia of the checking wire.
