Rollbars

Are either of the standar rollbars available from MK high enough to fit a 6ft5in bod like me? I would like the race bar as I fell it would actually be some use if, god forbid, I ever actually ended up hanging from the seat belts. Is it difficult to make your own? I have access to pipe bending kit and if I'm not confident enough to weld it there is a stock car builder in the village who I am sure would do the honours. If the make your own approach is feasible, can someone give me the correct diameter & wall thickness CDS to look out for (you never know what's going to turn up!)?

There's a bit of guff on tube bending on my site in Tube Works. At the bottom of the page, there are a few formulae to help you work out the bend positions etc.
If the stockcar bloke near you is worth even his weight in fertiliser, he should know how to do it all.

This sort of information is available to MK Rollbar owners club members!

Cheers

Btw I think most rollbars are for show as they could be as tough as old boots, but it don't make much difference if they're bolted or welded to a bit of three mil plate!

I have wondered about this before but I'd rather have one than not. Thanks for the reply though.

I am the same size as you, and have a welded roll bar on the chassis, albeit a Stuart Taylor one.

It depends on the seats you've got in, I'd say. Mine are plastic numbers bolted to the floor (so I'm about half an inch off the floor) and my head seems to be miles away.

Browser. i know a chap that makes race cages for a living and he's not a million miles from you, i know he will bend up a bar to the dimms you give him, as for the 3mm plate, thats all the MSA call for it's not the plate (assuming you can weld properly) that you need to worry about but what the plate is fixed to, if you are interested i can dig out his number for you.
A proper spec race hoop shuld be either 45mm o/d 2.5mm wall thickness cold drawn seemless or 50mm od 2.0 wall thickness cold drawn seemless and to bend this to the proper rads you realy should use a swept type bender not a straight push .
hope this helps..
oh and i am a little unsure how goos MK's road hoop is when its onlY £25? (MK web site) when the race one is a lot more, perhaps the road one is not the proper tubing, but i am guessing you would have to ask them..

Yes please Viper, thogu I probably won't need it for a while as I'm still saving for the kit!
