Stuck on Indy Build...
John.Taylor - 8/7/06 at 09:04 PM

Only picked up starter kit last week so really want to crack on, hence I've been working on it from 9am to 9pm today!

Fitted floor (148 rivets by hand), inserted must bushes and inserts, mouted all wishbones and shocks and mounted differential, but hit a couple of problems.

1.) In the bag that MK gave me containing the 6x No. bolts for the shocks, there were 3x No. black things that look a bit like bush inserts, but they are smaller than the metal ones used on the wishbones. They seem to be non-metallic, quite light and hard. What are they for?

2.) Offering my NSR hub to the upright, the middle bit lines up correctly and the 4x No. bolts go in a treat, but the bit that is supposed to feed through from the back (that the drive shaft bolts to) doesn't due to a lip on the upright. My donor had ABS so there are ridges on the bit that feeds through, for the ABS sensor to pick up, could this be a factor? What is the lip for on the hub? Will I be ok getting the flap wheel out and triming the lip back a bit?

3.) Anybody got some pictures on their archive of how the front hubs bolt to the wishbones? I'm a bit unsure how to fit the inserts, and what the long bolt type things are for?

Help most appreciated as my better half has granted me tommorow morning in the garage too!

my 4x4 driveshafts did not fit in my hubs because you need the abs teeth machining off on the shaft

wouldnt try grinding em

MK didnt tell me this either by the way

There might be some pictures in the build and rebuild sections of our build diary.

What about the metal things that came in the bag with the front hub top inserts? They are about 5inch long tube with an inch of M12 thread at one end and M12 thread inside the tube at the other end?

Steering rack extesions, as seen in the picture- link I gave in my post above..

You did get your rack shortened ?

Have you got a copy of the MK build manual?
Its not great, but worth having.

The inserts fit into the wishbones but you probably need to deburr the wishbones as the burr's on them are not so small. Preferably use some Silicon Grease to aid insertion and stop them squeaking at a later date.

The ABS teeth: IIRC removing 2mm on diameter is enought o clear the upright bore.

I used to have an MK Build Manual on our website - I may still have it somewhere if you haven't got one.
