Before splashing out on a rivnut kit could someone please confirm which is the largest size rivnut used on the Indy so I don't end buying a kit that doesn't go large enough.
Baz mentioned the roll bar is fixed with rivnuts and judging by the size of the holes there are much bigger than M6 which most of the budget rivnut guns go up to.

My mk roll bar was welded on by MK. And one of the things with rivnuts is that a 6mm rivnut needs a hole of about 9.5 mm to sit in. And as you say the budget tools only go up to 6mm. But some guys on here have made there own clever little tools to fit the larger ones like 8mm. The genuine tools to fit this size seem to cost lot of money.
Try making something perhaps.But welding is best.

you can use what are commonly known as hank bushes which are basically a nut with a thin shoulder on which crushes up when tightened doing the same job as the rivnut but much greater load carrying strength

8mm are probably the biggest used. If your roll bar os rivnutted on i wouldnt trust it in the event of a roll.

I agree with the other posts, the roll cage must not be fixed with rivnuts. Normally a roll cage uses M8 h/t bolts with full nuts on the other side.

I think the largest rivnut that a standard setting tool goes to is M6. You would need hands like Mole grips to set a steel M8 with the normal pliers.

Metric rivnuts are available in both imperial and metric o/ds. If you like me standardize on metric drills it is a good idea to make sure you buy the metric metric rivnuts if you see what I mean. It is also worth having a few imperial metric ones handy because if you do overdrill your metric hole, you have a second chance to fit an imperial rivnut which, in each size, needs a slightly larger hole than its metric equivalent. Sizes for metric metric as follows: M4 needs 6mm hole, M5 needs 7mm and M6 a 9mm hole.

so ignoring the rollbar where I've probably grabbed the wrong end of the stick will up to M6 be okay for everything else such as scuttle

I have used M6 for the scuttle and the radiator.
