Radiator fan switch

Hello

I have fitted a VW radiator (polo VW302) to my indy. I have been trying to get a radiator fan switch to screw in radiator but the motor factors are asking for part numbers etc as they say there are about six different. Anyone any idea of part number? Or what I need? Help!!

GSF gives these options for the Polo

93476 RADIATOR THERMO SWITCH PO 10/81 >7/93 2 Pin with Cover 95/84C 6.25 Add

93478 RADIATOR THERMO SWITCH PO 10/81 >7/93 3 Pin with Cover 7.95 Add

93479 RADIATOR THERMO SWITCH PO All 10/94> 3 Pin with Offset Pins 8.50 Add

93480 RADIATOR THERMO SWITCH PO 8/93 > 6.50 Add

I'd go for the first cos it's the cheapest and why do you need 3 pins? Just gives a reason to wire it up wrong

i went for the 3 pin - cause then you've got ground and 1 temp & 2 temp.

Can't remember the temps but it will basically allow the fan to come on at a different temp if you find it gettnig too hot / too cold.. I think they where 92 and 87 or something like that.

Stick with the 2 pin!

Usually tend to agree with you Mike but I'm not sure I do now!

My belief anyway:
is that the 3 pin is not for switching at different temps... it's for increasing the speed of the fan if the first speed is still not enough to keep it cool enough.

Cool Huh?!

But! This is only going to work if you have a fan that has two coils... so it can increase the speed when the 2nd coil is engaged.

Stick with the two pin!

Hope that helps,
James

damn - about 4 or 5 years ago when i bought my fan switch i was given some duff info ..... i had to pay a few quid extra for that fan switch as well.

grrrrr

James - nice to know you normally agree with me here's something i learnt in the summer.

believe me this information is 100% correct. 6 naked, sweating men, who kept hitting with with a bush between me and the door told me and I sure as hell wasn't going to argue!

why not have the three pin switch and two fans? a push and a pull?.... just a thought....

And surely, a three pin switch would work as Mike describes regardless of what it was designed to do? or am I missing something?

Good point dave, the 'other' pin must switch in at a different temp - hence it will work.

I love this list

(thats christmas cheer for you, started opening presents,
first present - a hammer with bottle opener (hammer for breaking ice / increasing bottle top leaverage).
second present - holiday in Salzburg with my two girlfriends
Been in a good mood all day!)
