Power commander experts, questions!
nitram38 - 28/2/09 at 05:53 PM

Right, got the Motaleira started.
On switch on, the PC led's scan and then one is lit at the bottom.
When the engine runs, the led does not budge.
I can update the map from my lap top but cannot get the lcd display to connect to do it from there.
I tried updating the firmware but it is not accessable from the PC software (greyed out) and when I use the PC USB firmware program I get error 42.
Is the PC knackered or is it only updateable from the laptop?
If it is working, shouldn't the led's move about a bit?

Thats normal behavior for the LED's on mine.

It took a while to work out what the buttons did. While switching on, if you hold all 3 buttons down you can then, while the LED's are scanning up and down, adjust a whole area of the map by pressing the button for that rev range (+or- 7% I think).

I've not got the screen so no idea about that.

So my map is working?

If you have the update firmware greyed out on the PC this means that you have a very early version of firmware loaded. There is a special dongle for updating to later firmware.
No I don't have one! - I also have a PowerCommander in need of this tool

The unit is a "PCPROG" unit which is sometimes supplied with Power Commander Ignition units (not with the normal PC fuel boxes).

From the description (and with the exception of the screen bit which I know nothing about) I'd say, yes.
No way to be sure without having it connected to a CO meter and changing the map to see if the gasses alter.

ps. firm wear is beyond me though.

I've looked everywhere for a PCPROG (ebay etc). Sent an email to dynojet.co.uk.
Reading the lcd display instructions, my PC firmware is too early. It would be really handy to have several maps on the lcd display ready for sva and then back on the road.
Looks like a laptop for now until I can source one.

Dynojet emailed back today. PCPROG £32.70 + vat + p & p.
Ordered, should come in a few days.
Looks like I am going to be popular with lots of you with version 1.0.0.20 firmware and earlier!

Shame I missed this post, Think I've got one if anyone needs to borrow it. I assume it's the little black box on a cable that comes with the Ignition module.

Looks like you could recoup your investment hiring out the PCPROG
Can I get a go?

Who are you talking to?

minitici - 2/3/09 at 07:20 PM

What were the chances of me posting at exactly the same time as the second offer

So either of you!

nitram38 - 4/3/09 at 02:04 PM

Well the PCPROG came today. The instructions are slightly wrong but after some searching on the supplied disk I updated the firmware. No longer 1.0.20 but now 2.3.2 (the latest).
The LCD screen still did not connect, but then I downloaded the firmware for that too and now the lcd talks to the power commander and displays what is loaded on it. (haven't run it as I have a leaking petrol tank).
The big advantage of the lcd display is switching maps on the fly, so no lugging the laptop around.

We use the LCD display on the ZX14 in the Radical. Mainly for the rev counter but we also use it as a datalogger (when the driver remembers to tap the screen )
We keep a second map in it also in case we have to fit the SuperTrap for noise problems.
