starter motor power
off-road-ham - 15/4/09 at 06:47 PM

Hi, does anyone know how much current a fireblade starter(or similar) will take when in use.
I am looking to get a speed controller so as to have some control rather than simple on/off.
thanks in advance for any usefull info.

you say use,
they are not for 100% duty cycle
i hope you dont want to run it for more than a few seconds

I just want to be able to control the speed and not have it jump form stop to full speed.
Also I think having a small amount of power to slowly rotate the cog will help it engage and show to IVA man that it is a thought out install rather than a bodge quick fix that will "fall off" after the test.
Hopefully that will help set a "good mood" for the test.
Other than the test I don't forsee much use.

Haynes ZZR1100 manual has no specs. on the starter itself but it's powered via the main 30A fuse.

So, less than (30A x 12V) 360Watts.

Starter solidnoid is usually fed by a 30Amp fuse.

Look at 200A may be more if stalled.

If you need a more realistic figure U2U me and I will try to measure the Current consumption on my removed RF900 engine.

There's no solenoid on the ZZR just a relay with integral fuse to the starter supply.
