but when using then around town can you just use the clutch to set off and then do clutchless changes even at low speed??
or are they really only for when driving like a loon??

Put another way I put mine to use at the same time I would perform a clutchless up shift or a left foot braking down shift, so yes, loon describes it pretty well.

I use the clutch when pottering about, the blip on the downshift still helps though. I can't see any reason why you can't go clutchless. It certainly helped me when my clutch cable went and I had a busy town centre to comprehend with on my route home.
Flatshifter do a "Pro" and an "Expert"system. The former cuts the spark and the latter the fuel injection. I'm told the latter is best for road driving. I'm also told the Pro can be hooked up to the injectors for the same effect (soft cut and restore of power)

I've finally got my trickshifter set up for both ign cut on upshift and blip on down shift and its very good.
Just try and minimise the length of the vacuum hose runs as that helps.
Although as said if pootling around town you may still want to use the clutch. Or if pulling up to a stop from a high gear you might as well just
whack the clutch in, let the revs drop then bang it all the way down. If you don't let the revs drop away first it will rev up quite a lot!
