Hi, I’ve just bought a new engine for my project and I was comparing it to my R1 engine.
The engine is a 5VY from a 2010 FZ1, the engine I’ve got to compare it to is a 2005 5VY R1 engine.
150hp vs 172hp.
What’s the difference between the two?
Exhaust manifolds, R1 to the left, ZF1 to the right.
R1 got 4-1 with the EXUP close, the ZF1 got a 4-2-1 system, a bit on the heavy side when it comes to weight.
Dimensions of the primary pipes are the same.
Airbox.
R1 to the left, FZ1 to the right.

Intake runners length.
R1 36mm length
FZ1 6mm length
As you can see, the R1 is pure top RPM, while the FZ1 with its 4-2-1 exhaust and longer intake pipes is a compromise to get some at midrange rpm.
So it’s possible to mix some parts to get a hybrid if one need more torque and power earlier in the rpm range.
