ASH3 - 16/5/05 at 07:45 PM

Only a matter of time before this one caught up with me!!
Symptoms .. Only wen i drove wit lights on car would only run when i turned them off till the batt had completly gone down.So charging system had gone..
is it common to char grill the multiplug with the 3 yellow wires goin to the alternator?
on testing the rectifier top right yellow wire terminal has gone to earth so i have condemed the beast!!
Lookin for new or s/h looked on a few sites but not come across this model SH633-H any ideas!
Also the 3 yellow wires coming from the alternator the original loom as been used n the 3ft of cable has been coiled up is it ok to shorten it without any adverse effect?

Search on Ebay, you can get uprated blade ones for about £60

1 Yes!
2 Well done!
3 See Chris`s response
4 Yes shorter the better!

BBQ connector can be caused, I believe, by rectifier going faulty, an also by connectors to it being loose, ypu may need to replace these too if its melted them anyways.

It's a wise idea to mount the underside of the rectifier to unpainted metal (probably aluminium) to transfer as much heat as possible away from the rectifier - this will help prolong it's life.
The uprated ones are supposed to be a good job though.

All the best

As Ali says, make sure its mounted to something metal to dissipate the heat, and also consider putting a fan on top. I used an old Athlon PC fan on top of mine and it lasted the life of my blade install (3 years)

I blew mine up this weekend and am fitting a rplacment this weekend. I assumed that the 3 alternator yellow wires can be connected in any order to the upper pins on the rectifier since they are all the same colour. Is this correct?

I don't want to see smoke coming from my rectifier again this weekend!

Good old ebay... one shud arrive by weekend £50 inc postage..
thanks for all the info chaps

Exactly the same issue on my CBR!

Think I should go in to the rectifier supplier business - seems to be a roaring trade!

...but why can you not run two rectifiers in parallel if they are so susceptible to failure?

ASH3 - 28/5/05 at 10:16 PM
