I'm noticing that my CBR1000 striker seems to producing a loud popping (backfire?) when coasting ie. under engine breaking.
Is this normal?
Isn't it just great
Most highly tuned engines do - just make sure it's tuned right...
What has Broken??... Its Braking when you are slowing... and Breaking when its falling apart!
Hope you done mind me having a POP at you
(Wow I made a Pun!)
Popping in the exhaust
is often a fuel mixture issue, or more likely an air leak in the exhaust.
Thats my 2d worth.
Nowt wrong with a bit of popping... especially on a BEC doing several K revs coming down through the gears. At least they cant say they didnt hear you
coming!.

Thanks for the info.
I'll monitor it to check that it does'nt get too bad, and have a look for an air leak in the exhaust.
Other than that I suppose I ought to start enjoying the sound!

I know a guy who did that. He then put a carbon can on his bike and tried it. There wasnt much carbon left on it afterwards![]()
Lotusmark2 - 2/9/05 at 05:53 AMI use to have a 2L twin cam sierra that was very highly tuned and remapped and that popped its way along when coasting, dont you just love it!
jambojeef - 2/9/05 at 09:35 AMJust to add my experiences....!
My CBR 1000 does pop quite a lot just on idle - more than my CBR600 engine did in my bike.
I wondered whether it was running pretty rich or there was something wrong on the ignition side but it seems to rev pretty freely? Might be worth checking the mixture?
