just pulled the carbs off to have a look around the engine, and noticed this part which seems to show signs of damage. looks like theres a squarish section of the plastic snapped off...



what is it?

service manuals didnt reveal much, i can only see one place where something similar is shown. by the looks of it theres 2 pipes coming from the carbs that are connected and this pic only suggests that those hoses are 'float chamber air vent hose's. the piping differs slightly on mine, im assuming because of 5JJ / 4xV differences.

im just wondering if anyone knows what its called so i can look for a new one?
(or if it IS just for vents, can i get away with it as it is? )

My 4XV engine is a bit different but I do have a green metak thing in about the same place that the vent hoses go to. I guess that you could route the vent hoses towards the ground without a problem. Phone a yamaha dealer and ask?
