Fuel sender help please
INDY BIRD - 3/1/06 at 09:16 PM

i have fitted the fuel sender to my on my MK to my blackbird clocks and when the fuel tank is full it reads only half full.

question is can anyone tell me why and if there is a solution to the prob.

is this a common prob or did i just use the wrong fuel sender it was supplied by mk.

thanks in advance for the help and

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Chances are you haven't adapted it for the restricted height in the fuel tank. IIRC mine needed 300mm of travel... depends on angle of mounting etc etc... ISTR the MK tank is 280mm high not enough, but where is the sender mounted pictures would help maybe...

Thanks it is mounted in the centre but i took the sender out and earthed it out, and when moving the arm manually by hand from empty to full it only goes to half way on the fuel gauge.

still baffled?????

I would imagine that the resistance range of your sender and what the clocks expect to see is different, ie the resistance the sender is showing when in the full position = the resistance of the blackbird sender when its half full.
You may be able to use some in-line resistors from Maplin to tweak it to show full, but you might find it then doesnt go to empty in which case you need a bit more complicated circuitry to recalibrate it to the gauge's range.

Hmm... not the movement then!

If you want it to work as intended then you need the Blackbird sender - sounds like it's not the right one.

However - if it shows half full when it's full, does it show empty when it's empty - in which case I'd put up with it as it's a pig to recalibrate.

You only feel an idiot when you never thought of it first... I feel an idiot most of the time but don't tell the missus!
