Hi, after I've done my 7 I'm planning on putting a bike engine into a small hatch back in a Z cars style....I'm just gonna strip it out completely ie roll cage two bucket seats and the smallest and lightest dash! I'm planning on collecting parts now for it so that I can get off to a flying start....alond the donor lines I was thinking - 3dr Nova, Polo, Mini, Corsa etc maybe fiesta...to be honest I'll just go along to the mart with my sub £100 budget and see what looks the best/lightest! However I've spotted this bike engine on ebay going cheap down the road from me and its got me thinking....its a CBR600, I know its not the biggest but with a fully stripped out car running a mid-engine rear wheel drive setup is this gonna be powerfull enough?? My other alternative is to make an autograss type of go kart....what do people think?? I'd rather have the car and MOT it to use on trackdays and hill climbs though! I think it should be alright with a nova body shell (maybe fibreglass some of the panels to save weight, a rollcage/space frame rear chassis and quad bike axle....thinking around 450-500 kgs.....which is fairly typical for a BEC right?? Also 600's seem so cheap I am contemplating getting it going with one as mentioned and maybe buy a second to put in the front.....I know this is a mega project but thats what I'm looking for really! Thanks for your thoughts.....Oli.
I think the gearbox is the factor that makes them unpopular in cars. I've read that the 'boxes on the 600cc group of bikes aren't up to pulling the weight..
I'll keep watching this engine and see what happens...hopefully it goes super cheap in which case I'll take the chance and see what happens.....I'll let you now what the outcome is....Cheers Oli.
dude even on the bike when your 2 up you can tell the difference and its pants,,in a car you might as well stick with whats in it allready
