R1 rev limit and over revving
smart51 - 21/1/06 at 09:07 PM

My carbed R1 has a red line of 11750 RPM. I know that it's best work is done before 11000 and that there is no reason to rev it to the red line, except perhaps in 1st. I don't ever plan to over rev it but then people don't plan to crash, yet so many drivers do.

Would it be very bad to over rev the engine by a small amount? Say if it were dangerous to change gear at that point or, I don't know, I forgot or got carried away or something?

If you see collors and collets coming out of the cam cover , back off a bit.

Reminds me what an old machinist used to tell me, "tighten it until you here a 'snap', then back off a bit."
