GSXR 1100 Speedo solution?
cloudy - 24/2/06 at 02:21 PM

The speedo on my GSXR1100 is cable driven annoyingly (the next model is electronic) How do people generally add a speedo to their BEC? I'd like a standard dial type if possible & cheap!

Magnets on prop
toothed wheel on diff flange
Magnets on wheel
Magnets on driveshaft

take your pickk...lots of ways to crack this egg...

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear

I'm more concerned about the actual speedo dial itself, I'm sure I can mount an electronic pickup sensor easy enough....

What's wrong with the original bike clocks?

nothing, but the speedometer is a mechanical version - I have no way to use this on the buggy

I know this question is old, but its new to me.

I have exactly the same problem. If you don't mind LCD numbers then it is easy (various bicycle speedos, acewell, or motorcycle clocks).

If you want actual "proper" dials, then you can buy new. There are various digital solutions, most of which will look after you when setting up (the cheapest is from racetech at around £85), but ETB, CAI, greengauges, VDO, all have solutions. Looking around £130.

The "interesting" thing is that motorbikes went from cable driven, to LCD almost avoiding the servo driven ones completely. So there are relatively few bikes that had servo driven speedos.

The short list includes:
sv650 and sv650s (98-02 models)
CBR600 some years

Even if you do manage to source one of these, then you still need to build some triggering hardware (magnets and reed switches, or hall-effect, or something), and then you need to be able to build some electronics to convert the frequencies accordingly.

It is something that I am working on doing.

Hi I had the Same Problem with my Suzuki RF900 engine

I used an ETB Speedo / Odo with 2 magnets on the prop.
Calculated the calibration value by measuring the rolling circumference + diff ratio and Passed the SVA easy.

Now going for a home made Digital Dash. (Search for digital dash)
