Ok today i started up the car and the oil pressure gauge went mad way past the 100 psi mark.
Not good at this point the oil filter gave out and burst the rubber seal putting oil everywhere.
Question is why could the oil pressure suddenly hit this kind of psi.
I do run a accusump but did not pre oil the engine or have the valve turned on,
could this have something to do with it,
Should you always run the accusump i didnt think you had too???
Any help gratefully recieved.
Cheers Sean
Always teehting problems somewhere along the line.
I would say that your PRV (pressure relief valve) had stuck closed so when starting up with cold oil, the PRV didnt bleed off the excess oil pressure.
Drop the sump and check the PRV, its spring loaded and on the blade at least (assume its similar) you could move the piston on the spring by putting a
screwdriver or something inside against the piston.
The only complication is the addition of the Accusump, Im not sure whether this could give similar symptoms if it wasnt working properly?

Your prv is stuck, I once put too many washers behind the spring on a mini one, blew the o ring off the filter, cant see how the accusump could make a
difference unless you have put too much air pressure in it, should only be 3-4 psi if i remember correctly, but even if you had overcharged the
accusump the prv should still relieve.
you can run with the sump on or off.
When i initially charged the accusump i put 7 psi in as per instructions.
But this was turned off at the time of starting the engine.
I have now drained/replaced the oil and put a new oil filter on and it seems to be ok.
so odds are it was the prv.
it seems to work better if i pre charge the engine with the accusump.
so perhaps the prv is sticking sometimes.??????
