Whatever... at $28,000, it has no place on a Locost forum anywhere.

Dont see why not.... locost is now more a car type than a price...

I spent £15,000 building mine

Dennis Platov is right, 4wd is the way to go with that power to weigth ratio ...

Cheers

But £15,000 doesn't even buy you the engine.

What transmissions bolt up to this V8? I think Quaife is making one - $15,000. The engine price probably doesn't include the dry-sump system, another $2000... so $45,000 total.

Discussing this drivetrain is like discussing the chances we have of getting a date with Angelina Jolie.

Dosnt stop us hoping though

JoelP - 20/3/06 at 06:15 PM

its not totally unaffordable, you can get an sr8 with one in for circa 50k, so bare it must be a fair bit cheaper. ive emailed them anyway, but people never seem to answer me...

ChrisGamlin - 20/3/06 at 07:02 PM

LOL, but once you've remortgaged to buy it all, youve then got to think of which organ to sell for the rebuild costs plus work out which bank you're going to rob if it ever goes bang.........

JoelP - 20/3/06 at 07:33 PM

lol, it said it had a 30 hour service interval!

ChrisGamlin - 20/3/06 at 07:53 PM

Bargain then, that would last me about 8 trackdays if I dont take it on the road

Peteff - 20/3/06 at 08:17 PM

Not really a bike engine any more is it?

cossey - 20/3/06 at 10:37 PM

i dont get the longevity issues with these bike v8s, the engines they are made from should last atleast 1000 hours so even accounting for the v8 be racing hours it still seems very low.

im tempted to have ago at making one myself as most of the hard to make parts can come from the bike engine (pistons/con rods/cams/possibly head) the only hard bit would be the crank but that bit could be out sourced

the heads might be a problem as they should be mirror images to get the inlets down the center but the stock casting can be modified to change the the camgear end.

Lippoman - 21/3/06 at 09:08 AM

Some bikes (like the FZR...) have the camdrive in the center, so it should be possible to rotate the heads on those.

No, now it powers a car so its a car engine...

But it started in a bike, just like a BEC

The maintenance issues will be due to the increased vibration and stress of running it as a v8 with the same sort of rpm...

Far better would be 4 ducati 999 engines side by side...

hehe
