Quick question about oil level.
I have a ZZR1100 engine in the Indy, and have swapped to the GPZ900 sump.
Haynes tells me that the oil should be 3/4 the way up the sight glass. Is that engine off or running.
I have re-filled it today and it is 3/4 when stopped but drops to 1/4 the way down when running.
I have a track day on Monday, would there be any harm in overfilling a bit?
Cheers

when its not running .
i would put more in ,a little over the window should be ok,rather have a little to much than not anough
Cheers bud
Took the old engine out last Monday, finished getting the new one in on Thursday night. Got it all running tonight. Test drive / shakedown on Sat /
Sun. First track day on Monday.

too much oil can cause clutch slip. If you put more in and the clutch doesn't slip then it isn't a problem.
is bad too!
it will mean that the pressure's in the engine's sump section will rise sky high at high recs wich willl result in oil vapoour entering the
combustion champher..
and that will give blue smoke etc..
also the higher carter pressure isn;t good for the internals of the engine..

We run our ZX12R with an overfill of oil. Oil is to the top of the sight glass with the engine running. No problems with clutch slip and no blue
smoke.
A LARGE overfill is bad, but as long as its only say half a litre and/or roughly the difference between top and bottom on the sight glass, it should be fine. However, its engine dependant to a degree because as smart51 says, it can cause clutch slip if the base of the clutch is sitting in oil when running, so it depends how low the clutch is in comparison to the oil level.
thats reassuring as ive got too much in mine! i put 4 litres in, it only wanted 3.8 before the sump was chopped!
that said, i cant see anything on the sight glass... its filthy!
