I'm replacing the gear change cables with a rod system (don't really know why as the cables worked fine). I think I have sorted out how I am going to do this except the joint onto the original bike gear change arm. I have an 8mm rose joint. I had planned to cut off the bit where your foot would go and to drill and tap this M8 for a bolt to go through the rose joint. Concerned however that this does not leave much meat.

How have others done this?

I am considering getting a lump of ali welded to the end.

i think that will be plenty strong anough,it doesnt take much to change gear

if your still not sure go for an M6 rose joint..

The way I did it was just use the complete linkage including joint from the bike (a later carbed engine that has the remote linkage), then cut down the rod to suit and drill/tap it to accept a rose joint for the other end.

Used thye M8 bolt. It was fine more meat than I thought. The linkage is all up and fitted. It works a treat. More feel than cables.
Awaiting an OMP steering wheel to arrive. The paddles may have to be repositioned as the boss is longer, hence further away.
I was tempted to get a yellow leather one to match the colour scheme but chickened out as it would probably get a bit grubby.
