Anyone do this? Just wondering as it seems a fairly attractive alternative to dealing with chains. Does anyone make a sprocket for the R1 intended for a belt? Just wondering...
Dont think I would fancy putting that much HP through a belt. It would have to be quite wide aswell. With probs of space.
Beemers and Harleys use belts so they should be o.k. if you can get the sprocket sorted. Buy a sprocket adaptor and bolt a cam pulley to it.
Think to its possible..
only it would be a rubber like happening
think about..reaction time..etc.. of the throtle..
that wy the chain is better etc..
Tks
But wouldn't you have to modify the casing? ie. to run the belts outside the engine casing & oil flow?
Yamaha use belts on their cruisers so it's probably worth popping into your nearest dealer and seeing if the parts are a straight swap.
Even if they aren't I'd have thought there are enough chopper guys over there who could knock one up for you.
Martin.
Why would you possibly want to change the chain for a belt??
youd be stuck with one ratio if you used the belt, well it wouldnt be as esy to change as just the sprockets would be.i would stay away from the belt idea.
There's no lag in a belt or the timing on your car would never work, if that's what you mean. Have a look here at BMW's new F800. Belts are lower maintenance and quieter than chains, I don't particularly dislike chain drive but I wouldn't write off the alternatives.
