'98 R1 plumbing - the little pipes....
Bob C - 17/4/06 at 03:42 PM

Quickie - I hope someone can give easy answers - The little coolant pipes on an R1:
1) there's a small and a larger un-accounted hose connection on front end and rear end of the carburettor bank (as in the car) - are these for water?
2) there's a smallish hose spout down by the big rad hose bottom/back of the engine.
I'm guessing that [2] should be piped to one of the carb spouts & t'other should be piped to the top rad hose ????? yes? no?
Thanks for looking
Bob

1. I am not sure what those pipes are for but on mine they are not connected to anything. Maybe they are overflows..

2. The small pipe is for bleeding air out of the water pump. You can blank it off with a bolt and use it for bleeding if you drain the system

bob the pipes at the end/start of the carbs are for coolant to pass through but you dont need it its for warming the carbs up quicker

2) the only pipe for coolant that is small I can think of comes from under the prop adaptor and goes to the top left of rad when looking from behind the car

this pipe originally splits in two and actually goes through the carb thing from the first answer

Aarrrrrgh - choice! I can blank 'em off or keep the carbs warm. I suppose it's to stop the carbs icing - however I never intend to use it in winter so 1st try will be blank the buggers!
Ta V much
