oil pressures?
skidude88 - 18/5/06 at 10:23 PM

Hi all

(not figured out how you post a single topic in multiple forum sections - sorry)

Just put a post up in electric regarding OPA on a DD1.

Can anyone here tell me (roughly) what oil pressure should be at various rev intervals

Been cover to cover in the haynes manual, if its in there I can see it for looking

She was only sat on choke and psi went past 50 - Ive a horrible feeling thats a bit high!!

Bu**er, just found it - 85-100psi @5000k's

Was getting towards that when I killed her.

All I've done is take the sump off, had it chopped and put it back (3-4 times!)!!???

oil is cold on startup - doesn't sound that bad - but i'm not used to modern bike engines. remember with my old mini i could tell the revs by the oil pressure gague.

Flattery gets you nowhere!

She's not exactly modern - '87-88

I was 16 then!

Unless by "old engines" we're talking pre-war!?

Sounds like your PRV may be sticking or something is obstructing it from opening. Not sure on the CBR1000 set up but I would guess its just a case of dropping the sump. Taking it out clean inspect perhaps replace.

Not sure how to modify the prv, but my cbr1000 runs well over 100 psi (or is that bar? i cant remember sorry) when cold. so i dont go above 4k until its warmed up and thinned out.

when warm it reads less than 20 at idle, 60-80 at 6k and about 100 at full chat.

hope it helps

Thanks for that Moorron.

Nice to have some values.

After looking into it/sleeping (not much) on it ...

I'm now aware that pressure is higher from cold as oil is thicker.

Manual says around 85-100psi @ 5000r's - presumably when warmed up

also

I know I need to set the OPA on the DD1, but dont know what pressure you should start worrying about, to set it at.

I've looked at the MAX PSI and she'd hit 99psi

Reluctant to go for a tootle round, if this is too high to start with, I rather know its right before hand rather than find its wrong afterwards

I would say it sounds ok, mine is similar when on full blast I think.

Are you also using the manual Low Oil Pressure sensor connection to the DD?

If so does the light come on when the ignition is turned on and then go out when the engine fires?

Rich.

Shortie :-

er...

sensor (6 pin) red - WK on sensor
orange - G on sensor.

You got me wondering know if thats right?

When on Ignition I get O.I.L displayed which is correct.

Also Oil is 0psi, both temps were 10 (last night)

(did have a bad earth last week which was giving me 26psi without the engine running - but sorted that)

Wiring sounds correct and the fact that O.I.L. comes up and then goes out sounds like it has pressure.

I would say it's a setting on the DD

Rich.
