r1 fan 02/03 engine

im building an r1 mini, ive read that people wire the standard bike fan fan to the ecu is it ok to use a bigger fan in the same system, or should i use a separate relay and fan switch in rad? hope this makes sense!

I can't remember exactly how its wired but Im pretty sure the ECU switches a relay anyway as I can't imagine it puts 10-15A through the ECU wiring!. If thats the case then as long as you're not way over the rating of the other fan, Id think you'll be OK.

I'd go the relay route, as the original wires aren't that big

do u mean i should run a separate relay from bike loom? wasnt sure if it would cause a fault in ecu and reduce engine revs to 7000 if i didint use bike loom

Normally the ECU controls a relay to switch the fan on. You can use a different fan as long as the power rating doesn't exceed that of the bike relay.

In my case I chose to have manual control (via switch on the dash) of the fan using the original bike relay and fan/radiator. This does not cause any error codes or restrict the ECU/engine in any way

thanks what fan you using?

I used the original bike radiator and fan - Mr Yamaha had a good idea how to cool their own engines :-)
