R1 Carbed Fuel Pump
Ferrino - 7/6/06 at 11:54 AM

I am using the 98/99 R1 carbed fuel pump on my 99 R1 engine and just wanted to check that people are using the existing Yamaha wiring to power the pump? It just seems that the gauge of wire coming out of the relay assy and into the fuel pump is of a really thin? Will it be working harder in a car (mine is pushing fuel from rear to front) and hence drawing more current? I think the pump just takes power from the ignition fuse (15A). Probably being over-paranoid!

Thanks!

The pump seems to pump to a pressure. It will reach the same pressure whether you have a long pipe or a short one. I guess it will have to pump for slightly longer to achieve the pressure. I personally wouldn't worry about the wire but then don't take that as a recomendataion.

Theoretically it will have to pump harder, both to lift the fuel when a tank is low/empty, and due to the losses in a long fuel line, which cannot be ignored. Must admit the '750' pump I use for the CBR thou seems fine (+ I don't use a relay)
