No gears above 3rd!!!
shortie - 8/6/06 at 12:33 PM

Guys,

On the Indyblade I seem to have developed a problem whereby I can only get 1st and second and sometimes 3rd gear but nothing above these!!!

Only just occured when I went out for a spin at lunchtime so haven't checked everything out but worried it could be the gearbox

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Rich.

take it out and put in a pinto

ned - 8/6/06 at 12:35 PM

We have had a quick look at the linkage at the engine end but haven't had the gaiter off the stick as a bit short of tools but the linkage is all moving but can't check how far. Worst case we are thinking selector forkbut I was in the car and it was being driven very sedately up until the problem occured.

Ned.

Stick a type 9 in it and a proper engine -no problems then

(waits for barrage of abuse)

Thats like the animal kingdom equivalent of being a Cheetah one day and waking up as a mud wallowing hippopotamus the next

Sounds like a bent selector fork - assuming the clutch is OK

The hippopotamus is a very dangerous creature and should be treated with a lot of respect

shortie - 8/6/06 at 01:33 PM

It's almost like the gears not there as if it's in 6th and you try to go for a 7th gear.

If the clutch was knackered then surely I wouldn't be able to get 1st, 2nd and 3rd and pull away, I did some hill starts no problem.

If it was the linkage then I thought it would probably not go into 1st and 2nd etc.

It's an 893 btw.

Rich.

It's also a very heavy creature and can't run very fast (In comparison to a Cheetah)

Shortie, if you can find out what's wrong, we have a few spares knocking about for the 893 blade. Just let us know

Phil

at 40 KM/H top speed It could out run you or me

chrisf - 8/6/06 at 04:46 PM

I've had a similar problem, but it recently seemed to fix itself. Regarding the linkage play, how tight should the clamp of the shifter be? Mine is ali and I'm afraid of tightening too much for fear of breaking it. Should these be tightened as much as possible?

Yeah and did you know more people die from hippo's each year than cheatah's. Hippos are blooming deadly and once one has decided its going to kill you, there is VERY little you can do about it.

trogdor - 8/6/06 at 06:13 PM

i have heard that hippos kill more people a year than any other animal! apparently they are known to capsize river boats, and cause mayhem

Paul (Notts) - 8/6/06 at 07:03 PM

Hippos are extremely dangerous – Especially the big ones with V8 engines

tks - 8/6/06 at 07:13 PM

What about my question!

Hippo vs cheetah talking about speed..

is this english humor

if the cheetah bites the hippo i think he can go walking and will win..

Tks

hippo discussion moved to .....

sorry about the hijack

G.Man - 8/6/06 at 07:21 PM

Maybe a broken pin in the selecter drum..

Once it wont make 4th it will then not make any gear above...

Selector fork would be more intermittent...

Easy fix if it is I think...

Clutch cover off, get to selector drum end where change mechanism is, and then pull drum end, pull pin, replace pin, reassemble...

shortie - 8/6/06 at 08:05 PM

Well the mysterious missing gears seemed to have returned!!!!

I think it might be something to do with the linkage and it not returning to the central point, it seems to be stiffer but seemed to be ok when I change and then return it to centre.

Will whip the tunnel cover off and have a look I think.

Rich.
