blackbird questions ?
Bitten hero - 10/6/06 at 09:22 PM

Hi all,i have obtained what i was told is a blackbird engine and need some questions answered.
The engine no starts sc-42e is that a blackbird ???? its a inj engine.
I got with it a loom with what appears to be a few fuse holders and relays and plugs of various types and the thottle unit/airbox /injectoers . do i need a regulator as i do not appear to have any thing that looks like one?
In the loom there is a potted electrical "thing" with markings on it TOP what is it???
It appears to have the clutch slave cylinder is that a prob?
Thanks in advance for your answers to me and yes bike engines are a mystery to me (at the moment ) cheers gary

a pic would be handy, but a giveaway is, "is it black" the clutch is hydraulic long push rod from sprocket side all the way thru too clutch. yup you need a regulator.

SC42E isn't a Fireblade so thats pointing in the right direction.
The thing with TOP on it, is possibly the tilt sensor, so if you drop the bike the engine switches off.
Clutch slave cylinder once again means its not a Fireblade, so almost definately a Blackbird.

Engine number indicates it's a Blackcbird,
As said sounds like a tilt sensor.
You are gonna have lots of fun with this.
An absolute must- go to a Honda main dealer (bike) and ask them to do you a copy of the wiring diagram fot the 'bird then get it blown up to A3 size and stick it on your garage wall. The number of sensors and plugs is amazing and without a diagram its impossible to tell your MAP's from your IAT's

enjoy

While hunting for bits to repair my bent, buckled 'bird I came across this...

Hi all
Thanks for the info looks like im def have to get one of them wiring charts!! just another question- I have now had a proper look at the box of goddies that came with it and there is no key and ignition switch just a note stuck on the airbox/plenum chamber that the imobiliser has been de activated and should start with out key( this was on there when the bloke bought it) Do you think that this could be right of should i go looking for a loom-keys -ecu etc? cheers gary.

Don't worry about the keys etc, get it in there, collectively we will get it running for you, that's what locostbuilders is all about.

HI again,
IT appears that i have only five gears so looks like its a x11 and not a bird!!!!! does that mean probs for me? is it just diff cams to change the tune and if so what about changing them to the black bird ones?(gonna have a power commander so fueling should not be a prob? help please thanks gary

Have a look on sidenet, they know these engines inside out. Dunno the specific differences myself, are you positive you only have 5 gears ? Can you post a pic of the engine ?

Not taking the whatsit, but you do know 1st is down and 2nd-6th are up?

X11 and bird are identical engines. X11 has slightly different cam profiles for more low down grunt
1 down 5 up with neutral between 1st and 2nd.

oops-
learn something new. I never realised the X11 was a 5 speed. There is very little in the performance graphs, bird slightly more power, X11 has a flatter torque curve.
140 PS @ 9000 RPM
85.3 ft/lbs @ 7000RPM
