There's a hole in my box.

Whilst on the track at Elvington on Saturday I managed to put a hole in the side of the gearbox. The pic is taken from the drivers side. The black bit at the top is the steering column and the bit on the far left is the sprocket adaptor.

I changed from second to third, BANG, engine fine but loud clanking and can't get neutral. Also the car won't even push backwards, had to disconnect the prop to get it off the trailer. Only lost a little oil though!

I am resigned to putting in another engine/box. That engine was a Kawasaki zx9 B1. I want to replace it quickly and easily for the summer, preferably by next weekend.

So my question to you learned chaps is this...
Which ZX9 engines are interchangeable, B1,2. C1, E1 etc. Obviously I want to use the same engine mounts, exhaust etc.

Oh and how much should I expect to pay for a bare engine/box from a breaker?

but i know that a b4 and a c model have different manifold spaces

not too clued up on bike engines but i think the 'e' had revisions and a stronger box - sure i read that somewhere..

Think C&E are pretty much the same

B & C definitely different to each other

E has the strongest gearbox of them all

yeah i am another who has heard the theory that the E has the stronger box...

Thanks for the replies. I have also heard that the E has a better box but I really didn't want to be bothered changing exhausts etc. Will try a few breakers this morning.

the e gearbox has extra bearings in the middle of one of the shafts. Certainly looks better designed in the manual diagrams.
