Just curious what people have done with the small take off from the inlet to the pump on a 99 R1?

The picture below shows the inlet to the pump and the take off just above with a small bore silicon hose attached to it.

Have people blocked this off? Originally it seemed to be plumbed back into the standard R1 radiator...

Probably not much help being fuel injected, mine goes up to the throttle bodies.

The injected engine tees into the throttle bodies and then onto the header.

Carb'd version should be the same less for the tee, so take this to the bottom of your header tank.

That's how I'm doing it, the only difference is I'm teeing off the waterpump to header connector to connect to the throttle bodies for the automatic choke.

I've T'd mine into the top hose.

Ive plumbed the water pump vent hose (the one you are talking about) into the bottom of my header tank. The thermostat vent hose goes into the top of my header tank.

The water pump pumps water into the engine. If there is a leak or an air bubble or something, my header tank will supply new water into the engine through the small hose.

Any air that bubbles out of the engine goes to the top of the header tank and so is taken out of the water.

What have you done with the small vent at the top of the rad or does yours not have one?

Any vent at the top of radiators etc will be to bleed air out of the system, so I'd just put it back to the top of the header tank, or T it into a pipe thats heading in that direction.

Sorry to drag this up again... But I'm fairly sure mine'll get plumbed up like the piccie that Paul (chockymonster) posted.

The only thing I'm curious about is if the thermostat small bore hose goes to the top of the header tank, is it there as a way of letting air to vent out of the system? And therefore does the outlet need to be lower than the input to the header tank?

As for the outlet from the radiator I may just vent this downwards to the ground. Is this doable? Any disadvantages?

Therefore the vent hose from the water pump will go the the bottom input of the header and the top will come from the thermostat casing. Correct!?

I tapped the 4mm ID pipe at the top of the radiaor to M5 and put an allen head bolt in it. I only tapped about the first 10mm so that as the bolt is tightened up you get a good tight fit. You can bleed the radiator by loosening the bolt off. Beware though, hot water comes out of the hole
